Learning By Reflecting With Technology: Mindtools For Critical Thinking

What are MINDTOOLS? 

        Traditionally, the use of technology has been to teach students much the same a teachers will teach students.  Today, we need to start viewing and using technology as a tool that will challenge the students to a higher level of critical thinking.  The authors pointed out that this includes the use of computer to teach students to present information, judge answer, diagnose  their understanding.

The authors further argued that technologies should be used as knowledge 

construction tools that amplify learners' abilities to construct knowledge for themselves rather than be "taught" by preprogrammed lessons.  This chapter also describes the application of technologies, primarily computer as a cognitive learning tools----MIND~tools.  In other words, adapting tools such as database, spreadsheet, multimedia etc to foster critical thinking and higher order learning.
