CHAPTER EIGHT REFLECTION

Learning By Reflecting: What Have We Learned?
After taking the view of Constructivist Learning Environments, then how do we assess learning? In this chapter the authors tie in the different attributes of CLEs and present rubric criteria's for accessing CLEs. The authors view is that students and teachers work together to construct a rubric that will promote meaningful learning. "Anatomy" of rubric should include organization, vocal qualities, visual qualities and pace. For organization the rating is from disorganized to explicitly organized. Vocal qualities range from weak to excellent and visual aids range from inadequate to excellent. The pace range from inappropriate to good with underlying pace of too fast to too slow. The author further examined five characteristics of a good rubric.
On a final note, I truly enjoyed and gain insights on the section of developing a rubric for assessing the effectiveness of a rubric. Prior to reading this book I have not thought of the need to actually examine or create rubric that assesses my students rubric. I have started implementing the constructivist view of a classroom environment this past quarter and the result has been awesome with my students reaching and setting new standards. With my new technology next school year and access to the internet I see the possibility for higher order of thinking as endless!!!
