.) We need volunteers for the Junior Classical League Workshop on November 17th, 2001. Call Dr. Morris for more information. He does have space if someone needs a ride.
.) Please email me you Spring 2002 schedule at [email protected] so that we can set-up a convenient time for our meetings next year.
.) April 16th is the birthday of the founding of Rome. We are planning on having a festival with readings, food, and other activites to celebrate. This would probably be held on the 15th @ 6:00 pm, which is midnight on the 16th in Rome.
.) Our Prytanis (President) has come up with the idea of an all night read-a-thon. We will read from epics such as the Aeneid, the Odyssey, and the Illiad. This would help to raise funds for our club.
.) The Trojan Women, a play by Euripides, will be showing at the Robinson Theater from April 11th to the 16th. Enrich you mind by attending this classic.
.) Dr. Morris is heading up an exciting trip to Greece this Maymester. If you are interested please see Dr. Morris to sign-up. You can also find more information at http://www.cofc.edu/~classics/greece/greece.htm
.) A few other fund-raising ideas have been thought of: A bake sale will take place in the Spring. Along with this will be "The Toga Challenge." This is where students and faculty members can donate funds in order to see various members of the Classics Club and Eta Sigma Phi dress up in a Toga for an entire day. Those of you who are willing, please email me at [email protected].
.) We are planning on showing movies with classical theme. All of Charleston will be invited to view such films as Jason and the Argonauts, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, and Spartacus.
.) Many lectures about Roman and Greek topics wild be held in the Spring. I encourage everyone to attend. All of them are very interesting. Some of the past topics include "The Augustan Monetary System" and "Women in Greek and Roman Society."
.) The Language Fair has been set. When I find out the exact date I will send out and email asking for volunteers to control the Classics booth. |
