| SOCIAL CHANGE TERM PAPER
The required term paper for this class (5-10 pages) will be based on original research drawing on data from the online version of the CIA World Factbook. Each student will be assigned several countries and will explore a number of economic and demographic characteristics of each country along with the overall health, education, and literacy of the populations. The paper should be written in an essay style and should be written at a university level (organized, full sentences, grammatically correct, spell-checked, etc.). Findings from the research will be discussed in class near the end of the semester. More details (and a lot of help!) will be provided in class. SUGGESTIONS FOR STRUCTURING THE PAPER: I. Introduction (2-3 pages?) Summary description of the world system � brief history, description of the three sectors and the relationships (exploitation, wars, etc.) among the sectors. Some general info about your countries (where, size, rich/impoverished/developing/etc.) II. Basic patterns from data on your countries (2-3 pages?) Compare population data � birth rates, growth rates, etc. Compare economic data � per capita gdp, work force segmentation, etc. Compare health and education data � infant mortality rates, life expectancy, etc. III. Conclusions /Discussion (2-3 pages?) What does it all mean?
