Term Paper Requirement

The term paper for this class will be a  5-10 page essay, not a research paper.

The assignment is to write an organized essay in your own words explaining what you have learned about the "criminal justice system" this semester and what you think about what you have learned

This is an informal paper and footnotes, citations, quotations, etc. are not required or desired.  However, unless it is obvious from the context you should identify where information comes from.

This paper involves an organized discussion of your response to major themes from the course in your own words. Don't try to discuss every detail of the material -- that would be impossible. Instead, discuss your ideas about main areas of the material. As you structure your paper, keep the big picture of the CJS in mind -- outlining often helps with this task.

Instructions  --  Read Carefully!!

The due date for the paper is included on the class schedule.

Papers can be turned in early and can be emailed.  Make sure you get an acknowledgment.

Papers not turned in on time will not get full credit.

Papers must be typed or computer printed and double spaced, with standard fonts and margins.
Professional standard:  1" margins all around, Times 12 point font, black print.

Please do not put covers/cover sheets on the papers or bind them in any way (just staple in the corner or preferably email it).

You can discuss the material with other people in the class, other people not in the class, with me, etc.
You can work in groups, use email to discuss or ask questions of each other and/or me, etc.

BUT THE PAPER MUST BE YOUR OWN WORK IN THE END -- IN YOUR OWN WORDS!!

Papers will be graded on substantive content and writing quality rather than length.
