| The second and last play of the weekend was another Shakespearian work, Richard III. This play was held in the Avon Theatre, which was more in the heart of the city. For a history and floor plan of the Avon Theatre, please click here. | ||||||
| The Avon Theatre, as compared to the Festival Theatre, was much longer than it was wide. The scenery was made of a wire frame that could be moved and also seen through. It gave the play a more modern look than Romeo and Juliet. Richard III also used projectors to create the ghostly beings that haunted Richard, and this was very tastefully done. I personally did not find Richard III as enjoyable as Romeo and Juliet. I had difficulty following the performance and also a hard time seeing due to our seats. Despite these obstances, the costumes and acting were excellent as well as the scenery mentioned before. After some discussion with other students, almost everyone agreed that Romeo and Juliet was their favorite as well. A large part of this had to do with the fact that we all knew and understood the story line of that play, where as with Richard III, we knew very little. Overall, though, it was still a pleasant experience and a wonderful performance. For more information about Richard III, please click here. |
