Every year thousands of animals are euthanized throughout the United States. The following statistics are from your local Animal Shelter.
In 2005 an estimated 1,650 animals were euthanized at the Estill County Animal Shelter. An estimated 200 were adopted throughout the year. Statistics for cats are even worse, during the 2005 year, an estimated 410 cats were brought into the shelter and 390 of them were euthanized!

As of June 14th, 2006 an estimated 600 animals have been euthanized!
For the month of May 2006, 71 cats were brought in to the animal shelter and ALL were euthanized.

There is some good news however, as of June 14th, 2006 there have been an estimated 200 animals adopted for the 2006 year so far!!!

At the Estill County Animal Shelter, adoption prices are currently one of the lowest in the State of Kentucky, you can adopt a dog or cat for $15.00, this fee  not only includes your great new pet, but also includes a coupon for free rabbie shots and the 7 way shot for Parvo, Distemper etc..
