ECZEMA |
TECHNICAL TERM... Inflammatory itching disease of the skin. Also known as Atopic Dermatitis, is usually associated with dry skin. It starts with a pink or red area that becomes itchy. After being scratched the skin gets rough and scaly, or in some cases ooze and form a crust. |
TREATMENT |
LIMIT BATHING.. it tends to make already dry skin even drier. CHOOSE UNSCENTED PRODUCTS... A moisturizer or soap can contain fragrances that trigger a flare up. KEEP IT WARM... Water should be warm for comfortability. Hot water is more harsh compared to warm water and tends to remove oils from skin. OPT FOR COTTON... Cotton clothing is best choice to wear. Avoid wool, which can especially irritate eczema. TRY ANTI_HISTAMINE... Such as Benadryl can help the itch. Follow directions on box. |
WHEN TO SEE A DOCTOR |
You should see a doctor so they can diagnose eczema. Flare ups treated at home when irritation is so severe that open sores appear, can lead to infection in those areas. Signs of infection include pus or red sreaks leading away from the scratch. |
