BUNIONS
FILS FAST FACT: To small of shoes are one of the major causes of foot pain and problems. Take care and take time to shop around when  you want to buys shoes. The only way you know your wearing the right pair of shoes is if your never reminded that you have them on.
Does your foot resemble a shape of a triangle? Does the tip of your big toe angle inward and your joint outward? If it does, you have a bunion!
If it hurts, it is because when the lump that forms at the outside of the big-toe joint becomes sore or swollen, it irritates the nerves nearby. This is usually caused by your feet being closed in shoes that press against the bunion.
PREVENTION
STICK WITH THE FLATS.  Heels shift your weight forward to the ball of your foot, which is not a natural position.

TREATMENT
HERE'S WHAT YOU CAN DO FOR IMMEDIATE RELIEF FROM BUNIONS AND HOW TO PREVENT BUNIONS FROM GETTING WORSE......

   TRY ICE.
If your bunion feels hot and swollen it could possibly be inflamed. Cool it down by applying a cloth covered ice pack. Wrap it in a cloth and apply it for 10 to 15 minutes, then remove it for a couple of minutes. If you suffer from any circulation problems or diabetes avoid using ice for your foot problems.

MEASURE YOUR FOOT.  Experts advise selecting footwear that gives bunions plenty of space. " You must get as much pressure off your bunions with properly fitted shoes " says Esthetician Fil. Make sure that the width of your foot is measured at its widest point. Measure standing barefoot or with socks from your big toe across to your baby toe.

TRY MEN'S FOOTWEAR.  If you are having trouble fidding wide enough shoes in women's sizes, try wearing men's shoes. They are generally cut wider, so that would allow your foot to have room without being bothered.

GET ARCH SUPPORT.  This also helps distribute your body weight away from the bunion, by distributing it across your entire foot surface evenly..

WHEN TO SEE A DOCTOR
If your bunions hurt every day, even when wearing properly fitted shoes, see a doctor. Expecially if the pain begins to limit your daily activities. Your podiatrist might recommend surgery to remove the bony outgrowth and help realign the bones in the joint of the big toe.
HALLUX VALGUS is what bunions are also known as. Hallux is a medical term for big toe and Valgus is a anatomic term meaning deformity that goes in the direction away from the middle of the body.
