Thursday October 5 2000 Esther is leaving! Yeah, here we go, the house has been sold, the contract will be signed at the end of this month, but Esther cant stand it anymore, everything is around. The papers are ok, the vaccinations are over and done, the bills have been payed, so pack that backpack! Today I just coloured my hair again and tonight Ive to work (for the last time), say farewell to some people and finally on Friday OCTOBER 13 to Egypt for a beautiful 22 days trip throughout the Nilecountry. Yes, on my grandpas 82th. birthday (Im sorry grandpa), in the morning Ill visit him. Therefore: departure on October 13 next, from Schiphol Airport by plane at 17.30 h. And you bet that well inform you frequently, the nice moments, but the worse too. Herbert and Esther. |

| Sunday October 15 2000 Hi everyone, It's October 15 and the second day in Cairo, I'd a good flight, only one hour delay. Of course my backpack was lost on the airport, someone took the wrong bag........after several helpful Egyptians, I got my bag back again, but meanwhile the group was on its way to the bus, so: looking for the bus. There was one veeeery helpful man who grabbed my bag, put it on a cart and raced all over the parking place and I ran after him. I found the bus and the man wanted a tip of course. Yesterday we went to the pyramids and the Sphinx, very strange to be there, very bizarre....Then with the bus racing throughout Cairo, the traffic is one big chaos, everybody drives on his own way and constantly hooting, like on tv....... We also went to 2 churches (catholic!!!). They've been built below street level, because when the Arabs came to Egypt, you kept it secretly when you were a Christian instead of Moslim. Everywhere small alleys. Afterwards we've been to a mosque, which used to be a castle in early days, it stands above the city, an excellent view over Cairo. We've also seen how you can make papyrus. Totally exhausted back to the hotel, where we had an Egyptian dinner all together, which even to Esther it was "good eating". This morning everyone went to a museum to see mummies, but I didn't go (watch too much Discovery Channel I think). I was looking for a taxi, first bringing down the price and I went tot the Khan El Khalili Bazaar. Of course I lost my way in all those alleys, but it was very bizarre walking on that spot and seeing all those people doing their things. Made a lot of pictures. Tonight we go to Aswan by plane, which is one and a half hour flighing from Cairo. Everything is OK, but it just occur to me that I left for such a long time, I'm glad I've started a group travel. But I survived Cairo on my own, so everything has to go well. Till next mail. Esther. |
