LEARNING TO READ
Tips to improve your reading skills...
1. Look at the pictures (if there is any), titles, words in bold type and underlined words.

2. Answer these questions for yourself:
           a) What do you think the pictures show.
           b) What do you think the reading is about?

3. To know what information to look for, look at the comprehencion questions before you begin to read.

4. Do not use your dictionary to look up new words.  Try to guess the meaning based on the context of the sentence or paragraph.

5. Pay attention to the most important parts of the reading (the main ideas).

6. While you read, think about the ideas not about the meaning of every word.

7. Think about your opinion of the ideas.

8.
Underline the important ideas, phrases or sentences.

9. Write down notes about the important points on the margin of the page.

10. Talk about the reading.  Tell yourself or another person the important ideas.

11. Remember the infomation you read should not be too difficult.
