Question #1:
When did you become a Christian and why?
I was born a Catholic, which I don’t think is a lot different from Christianity. We believe in the same God as Christians, so I guess it’s okay for me to answer the following questions.
Question #2:
How has your life changed ever since? Or how would your life be different if you weren't a Christian?
If I had been born with another faith, I think I would’ve had other beliefs(obviously). I have met many people of other religions and their faith is totally amazing. So, I believe that it wouldn’t have mattered to me then, because I would have been content with my beliefs and my faith.
Now, if I were to convert(which I never would), I would absolutely feel like a sinner and I would never be able to find happiness in my life, unless I embrace Catholicism again.
Question #3:
How has God been real to you? Or how do you know that God exists?
God is in my heart. I know he is angry when I do something wrong. When I ask for forgiveness, I can feel him forgiving me. When I do something right and am happy, I know in my heart that God is happy too and when I am sad or depressed, I ask for his help and he helps me in this really miraculous way, that I have no other choice, but to say that God has been real to me throughout my life and will remain real to me forever.
I haven’t seen God, but I know that God exists. I believe that we are the witnesses of God. We are here because of someone and that someone is God. Besides, I feel that you don’t have to see something to believe it. You have to believe in something first to see it.
Question #4:
What is your favourite verse and why?
“Love is patient, love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, endures all things.”(1 Corinthians 13:4-7)
I believe in these verses with all my heart. I feel that love is the key to peace and happiness. This might seem sappy, but it is. If one loves you, you feel happy because you know you have someone, who’ll always be there for you. Now, if you love someone, there is no room left in your heart for any kind of skepticism, criticism or hatred for anyone. And as the Bible says, everything will cease eventually, but love never will, and that’s the truth.
Question #5:
How have you struggled spiritually?
There are so many temptations and hardships in this world, that a person is bound to struggle sometime. When I meet the challenges of the world, it is then I struggle spiritually. There were times when I didn’t really doubt my beliefs, but I started losing faith in God. After a while, I realized what I was doing and I started praying to God to make my faith stronger and it worked. I am still not the happiest person in the world, but I am never going to let my faith die, because I can live my life dealing with predicaments, but I can’t live happily with the feeling that I’m hurting someone really special.
Question #6:
What is the most challenging aspect about being a Christian?
Christian teaching is about love and peace and nowadays, you really have to struggle to obey these teachings. Jesus said that if someone slaps you on your right cheek, offer him your left cheek as well. In other words, be nice to a person even if that person is swearing at you. Can you imagine yourself doing that? It’s really hard. Therefore, that’s the most challenging aspect about Christianity; just being the person that God wants you to be.
Question #7:
What is the best thing about being a Christian?
Ummm… let’s see. For me, it’s the satisfaction I get from believing in God and having faith in him. Even in my most miserable and saddest moments, it gives me all the peace I need.
Question #8:
Describe your relationship with God.
God is everything to me; he is my father in heaven and the one who knows me more than I know myself. I can’t even bear to imagine my life without him.
Question #9:
Who is Jesus to you?
In Gr.8, when I went on my Confirmation retreat and they asked me the same question, my answer was, “Jesus is the Son of God”. Today, the name Jesus means more than just Son of God. He is my Saviour, the Prince of Peace and my very best friend. I begin and end each day with his name. He is the one who makes me want to live each day, who makes me want to have undying faith and it’s because of him I believe in miracles.
Question #10:
Have you ever doubted your beliefs?
No, I have never doubted my beliefs.
Question #11:
What strengthens you spiritually?
The fact that God is with me forever and will never leave me alone, the hope that my prayers which don’t get answered immediately will be answered eventually and the belief that God is the light of this world and he can alter anything, whenever he wants to, without anyone coming in his way is the thing that strengthens me spiritually.
Question #12:
What does being a Christian entail?
Being a Christian entails first of all, becoming true followers of Christ by obeying the ten commandments of God. We are taught in Church to bear our own cross. I look at this statement and requirements of Christians become clear. God gave up his own Son for all of us and forgave us. A true Christian needs to learn to forgive others and have peace within his heart. An individual needs to realize that one has to suffer a little to gain something special. And lastly, a Christian needs to believe in two statements. First, “Ask, and it will be given you; search and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened for you.”(Matthew 7:7) And second, Jesus said, “And remember, I am with you always, to the end of time.”(Matthew 28:20)
Question #13:
If you could send a message to someone who is exploring Christianity, what would it be?
I don’t know the reason you’re exploring Christianity, so I’ll just to guess. First of all, Christianity requires a lot of faith and hope, but then again, what religion doesn’t, right? I have been a Catholic my whole life, and for me, my faith is the most important thing in the whole world. I have received a huge amount of happiness in my life, and that’s because of God. He has been my light and help in everything. There is not enough time to tell you my whole life story, but believe me when I tell you that I have gone through a lot and God has always brought me back from my moments of despair to moments filled with joy. My belief in God has led to be proud of the fact that I am a Catholic(or a Christian. I still don’t think there is much difference). Anyways, I hope this helped you in some way.
