Il-2M Tip 3MThe Il-2 began to give service little before the beginning of the German assault on the USSR, equipped with an engine AM-38 of 1.660 CV, two cannons of 20 mm. and two machine guns of 7,62 mm. It was taking also an interior and exterior load of bombs and rockets of 82 mm.

At first not too many important, some later changes allowed it was improving the power of the engine and, especially the armament, which turned it into one of the most effective devices of the Red Army for operations against tanks. For it, it was the plane made to bigger speed and quantity of the history of the military aviation.

From the original one Il-2 stemmed to Il-2M, equipped with an engine AM-38F and one cannon of 23 mm. Later, there was made Il-2M Tip 3 and Il-2M Tip 3M, which replaced the cannon of 20 mm. for other one of 37mm, which was giving it a bigger antitank power. Il-2, nicknamed by the Germans Stormovitz, turned in the airplane most famous of the Soviet Union, representing what the Stuka for the Luftwaffe.
