DB-3F (Ilyushin Il-4)

 

Il-4 loading bombsIt was known also as Ilyushin Il-4, it began to operate in 1941, turning into one of the most important bombardiers of the II World war and into key piece of the Soviet offensive in the winter of 1942-43. DB-3F it was the result of diverse modifications realized on DB-3M, which last aim was to achieve a bigger quick of manufacture and to facilitate its repairs in campaign.

Originally, engines Tumanski M-88 stimulated it with cylinders in star and 1.000 CV of development. Little later, it was achieved to improve the presentations of its two engines, obtaining bigger power. DB-3F suffered also other modifications: tank of fuel auto closed, increase of a crewmember on the originally foreseen 3 and improvement of the power of fire. In this respect, the original machine gun of the turret, of 7,62 mm, was changed into other one of 12,7 mm and more trade into a cannon of 20 mm. Of this model were making 5.256 units, finishing its period of construction in 1944.
