Debbie and I saw LiVE for the first time at Pinkpop 2000. The funny thing is that we liked them at that time but after Pinkpop we became really big fans! So when we left we decided to go to see LiVE again as soon as we could. Unfortunately we didn't go to Lowlands this year where they appeared as the surprise act. We hated ourselves for that! However, the next day the announcement of the AHOY' concerts was there!! We freaked out!!! At first, only a concert at the 11th was mentioned but when LiVE was visiting the 3FM studio I got the chance to chat with Chad G and he already told us about the exact number of concerts: 3!! Ofcourse, we were the first to buy tickets at the post office :-) We took the whole day off and arrived at Ahoy' at 5 pm. We were releaved to see that it wasn't really crowded as we had planned to be there a lot earlier. So we were able to stand in the front row!!! Excellent that was! Standing there I still couldn't believe that it was really happening! And then the concert started... Chad Tayler was playing in front of us. Why wasn't I aware of his fabulous looks before? :-) Wearing a kind of reggae hat and hippie trousers he was absolutely yummie! And than Ed appeared on stage.. wow.. I didn't really like his style but seeing him from this close was amazing. I really admire him for his work, his visions, the lyrics, the music, the voice and his looks ofcourse ;-) They started with Simple Creed which was really strong and energetic. This is the set list (stolen from the Dutch Fanclubsite.. tnx mates!) 1.
Intro It was a once in a lifetime experience. The band was playing really good, Ed was singing his soul out of his body and the crowd was as enthousiastic as they could be! When Ed stopped singing the noice was enormous, you should have heard 11000 people sing "I alone" and "we all want to dance with you". In contrast, the quietness during some other songs was also impressive. We had such a good time although I just can't understand that people have to clap their hands during "Lightning Crashes" which was dedicated to the Afghenic refugees. Such a shame.. And then in the end Ed appeared on stage dressed up in an American flag singing "Overcome". On the big screens on both sides of the stage we could see the clip with the images of nurses and firemen working in the mess of the WTC disaster. Everyone was deeply touched. During the concert Ed already said that all we need is love ("one love, one life" from U2 was sung during an intrumental break in "Stood up for love") and that we just have to celebrate that we are living and loving each other. Not to sing is the last thing that we should do.. he said. And I think he's right. As long as we don't give fear a chance there is hope. Ofcourse he sung "Imagine" as that is covering all the intentions LiVE has itself. As I am a bit of a softie I really enjoyed the acoustic session but I must admit that the more energetic numbers were really rocking!! I think that I can even handle those now!!! ;-)

It was fabulous! Afterwards we were hanging around in the front in order to obtain a set list but we didn't succeed in that. Then we saw a big man standing besides the stage and we were wondering what he was doing there: he was handing out backstage tickets!! We went really out of our minds when we got them!!! We were about to meet them, I couldn't believe it!! But it happened! It was really cool talking to them and see them so closely. I got autographs on the pocket of my mobile phone ("what is this?!?!") and Debbie and Vanessa got some on her ticket. A very friendly guy took a picture of us so I am expecting that one soon. What a day... I am still a bit overwhelmed... You can find a review of the concert in Antwerp over here |
