| One of the biggest difficulties for English for Specific Purposes (ESP) teachers and students is the inability to incorporate all the aspects of ESP into one text. There are an infinite number of possibilities when it comes to ESP that trying to include everything would be impossible. In addition, in order to give students access to authentic materials, teachers must find and print documents from the internet to share with their students. The primary aim of the website is to provide and update links to authentic texts that represent practical examples of how language is used in some ESP areas. The secondary aim is to give students a few examples of authentic texts so that they can have a base from which to begin their own searches for other texts and links. Teachers can create information scaveneger hunts with the site provided so that students can practice navigating through authentic sites. This type of activiity will benefit student's reading skills, vocabulary and help increase student motivation at the same time. Some of the sites have links to sample lesson plans. The aim of the lesson plans is to provide examples of activities that teacher's can use with the sites. Let me know if you have a good idea for one of these sites or another site. Send e-mail to [email protected]. A final thing to note would be for teachers to take their students' level into consideration. Some of the sample lesson plans offered on this site are very level specific and would not work if the students' level is too high or too low. Use what you think works best for your class and send modifications and/or suggestions to me. |
