| OVERVIEW: Sonic plays the Hidden Palace as a zone, then fights Knuckles. Robotnik steals the Master Emerald and Knuckles realises his mistake, joining forces with Sonic and helping him to Sky Sanctuary. Throughout this zone you fight Metal Sonic. After defeating Metal Sonic for the final time, the Sky Sanctuary zone falls apart and Sonic jumps into the Death Egg. If you have acquired all the Chaos and Super Emeralds before you complete the Death Egg zone, you will change into Hyper-Sonic and play the Doomsday zone before seeing the proper ending to the game. If not, you fight the same final boss as Tails and see the 'bad' ending. |
| OVERVIEW: Knuckles does not play the Hidden Palace as a zone, he merely runs to the left and jumps onto a crystal that warps him upwards to the Sky Sanctuary zone. He doesn't play this as a zone either, but goes straight to his final boss - Hyper Metal-Sonic (previously defeated by Sonic but now recovered and having absorbed the power of the Master Emerald). If you have acquired all the Chaos and Super Emeralds before you defeat him, then the Master Emerald is returned to the Floating Island and it rises back into the sky. If not, then it falls into the sea - the 'bad' ending. |
| OVERVIEW: Tails plays the Hidden Palace, Sky Sanctuary and Death Egg zones, but does not fight Knuckles at the end of the Hidden Palace. The final boss for Tails is a huge machine with hands that try to crush you, and then a flame and a Master Emerald beam that try to kill you. If you have collected all the Chaos and Super Emeralds before you defeat this boss, then you will see the proper ending where the Master Emerald is returned to its rightful home on the Floating Island. If not, the Island falls into the sea - the 'bad' ending. |
