USEFUL CHEATS

Rings in Death Egg Zone: Enable the "Level select" and "Debug" codes. Go to the Death Egg zone, turn your self into a ring, and press C to multiply yourself. Then, turn back into Sonic and collect the rings. This should keep you from dying for a while.

Toggle Tails or Miles: Press Up (X3), Down (X3), Up (X1) at the title screen. A sound will confirm correct code entry. Alternatively, press Up (X2), Down (X2), Up (X4).

Extra continues: Enable the "Level select" code. Use the sound test selection on the options screen. Choose sounds 1, 1, 2, and 4 (In that order) and press C after each selection. Highlight the "Player Select" option and press Start.

Super Sonic and Tails: Enable the "Level select" code. Use the sound test selection on the options screen. Choose sounds 4, 1, 2 and 6 (in that order) and press C after each selection. Music will confirm correct code entry. Select any starting level and collect 50 rings. Sonic or Tails will turn yellow and can run at super speed, jump twice as far, and become invincible to enemies and spikes. The total number of rings will decrease during super mode. Your character will revert to normal when the ring total reaches zero. Note: Super Sonic or Tails can still drown, be crushed, and fall into bottomless pits.

Alternatively, enable the "Level select" code. Then, press Start and hold A. Press Start when the title screen appears. Activate the "Debug mode" code, then play songs 3, 4, 1, 2, 6. Start any zone, change into a ring by pressing B, then create 50 rings by pressing C. Change back into Sonic by pressing B again, collect the rings you created, then jump, which will turn you into Super Sonic. Make an item box as Super Sonic, and jump on it. Get hit and change back into Super Sonic.

Enable the "Debug mode" code. Become Super Sonic, then create and position a "Transfer Box" monitor. Hit it while as Super Sonic. You lose all your powers but stay yellow. Tails looks the same but has invincibility, with little stars flashing around him. To regain Super Sonic, allow yourself to get hit, then press B to turn into a ring and place at least 50 rings on Tails. Press B to exit debug mode and jump to become Super Sonic with Super Tails as a follower.

Better Super Sonic: Enable the "Level select", "Debug", and "Super Sonic" codes. Select a stage with Tails in it. Get over fifty rings, then jump. Create two teleportation boxes, spin, and hit both of them. The screen should flash. You should now be Super Sonic surrounded by stars, but will not be invincible. Get ten or more rings and jump again. Sonic will morph to a better, invincible, Super Sonic.

Enable the "Level select", "Debug", and "Super Sonic" codes. Become Hyper Sonic in Ocean Act 2, then collect fifty rings and jump. This will turn you into Ultimate Super Sonic. You will look like the regular Super Sonic, but will be faster than Hyper Sonic and invincible.

In the level select screen, go to the sound test and enable the "All Chaos Emeralds" and "Debug mode" codes. Choose a level with only Sonic in it, then hold A and press Start. Collect fifty rings, jump, and turn into Super Sonic. Wait until your rings are almost all gone. Then, create two teleportation boxes and roll through both. This will make a gold Sonic that has stars around him. He has all of the powers of Super Sonic but will not cost any rings. After this, do not get an invincibility box, this will take away his powers. And if you get more than fifty rings and jump, he will turn into the normal Super Sonic with stars around him.

Super Tails: Enable the "Debug Mode" code. Start any level. Place a transfer box monitor on the screen. Hit the monitor as Super Sonic.

Super Sonic in Death Egg zone: Enable the "Level select", "Debug", and "Super Sonic" codes. Go to the Death Egg zone and turn yourself into a ring (press ‘B’). Multiply yourself (press ‘C’ repeatedly) until there are 50 or more rings. Collect them and jump to become Super Sonic.

Hyper Sonic: Run forward in Oil Ocean, Act 2 until reaching the green jet springs. Jump on the very last spring and hold Right. Sonic will hit a group of spikes before becoming stuck in the side of the wall. Jump out to transform into Hyper Sonic. In this mode, Sonic can run faster and jump farther than Super Sonic, but is not invincible.

Mega Sonic: Collect fifty rings and jump after becoming Hyper Sonic for even more speed and higher jumps.

Extra lives in the Chemical Plant zone: Insert the Sonic The Hedgehog 2 cartridge into the Sonic And Knuckles cartridge. Play until reaching Chemical Plant Act 1, where you get to the wall with the Spiny Badnik and the warp tube on the floor. Break open the tube and go through it. When you come out you will see a Ring Box next to a tower. Climb up the tower and on the top you will find an extra life. Glide left and you will find another extra life. Glide to the left one more time and you will find yet one more extra life. Since you will not want to go through the level again just glide to the right until you get to the tower you started from. Get on that first tower and glide to the right. The Act will be over and you will have three more lives.

Extra lives: Enable the "Debug mode" code and start a game with Sonic and Tails. Press Down + Jump (Spin Dash) then press B to turn into an object. Turn into an enemy and place him on Tails. He will still be Spin Dashing. Your points will soon double and you will get lives every second, or depending how fast, you place the enemy by pressing C. Once you have enough lives, turn back into Sonic by pressing B again. This is much faster than setting the alarm off in Launch Base Zone. Note: This works with any other Sonic game that has debug mode. More compact enemies work better than the larger ones. For example, in Aquatic Ruin, the Fly is much more efficient than the Grounders.

Enable the "Debug mode" code and start a game with Sonic and Tails. Once in any level, turn into any enemy that you can destroy from above. Jump, then enable the "Debug mode" code. Tails should constantly be jumping. Put a lot of enemies underneath him. In about five minutes you will have about 80 to 100 lives, Remember, only put enemies underneath Tails.

Easy level win: Enable "Debug mode" and create an object that resembles a square made of machinery. Place Sonic above this and drop him.

Easy Chaos Emeralds: Start the game as usual. Get a Chaos Emerald, reset the game, and start the game from the options menu. You will keep the Emeralds that you have gained so far each time you start from the options menu.

All Chaos Emeralds: Enable the "Level select" code. Play songs 4, 1, 2 and 6 on the level select menu. Start any zone, get 50 rings, and jump.

Unlimited fast boots: Begin gameplay in two player vs. mode and hit as many item boxes as possible until you get the fast boots. Then, intentionally lose your life while you have them (getting squashed is the easiest way). You will return to the start of the level or the last star post that you hit, but you will now have the fast boots in effect for the rest of the stage.

FUN CHEATS

Object transformation: Enable the "Debug" code. Press B during game play to change Sonic into a game object. Press A to change into a new object. Press C to place an object on the screen. Press B again to revert back to Sonic. Note: The type of object that may be selectable will vary from level to level.

Super Sonic animation: To play the Super Sonic animation repeatedly, enable the "Level Select" code, the "Debug Mode" code, followed by the "Super Sonic" code. Go to any level, and any Act (except the single Act levels -- Death Egg, Sky Chase). Complete the Act with more than 50 rings. As the score begins to add up, press B, turn into an item, then press B again. Sonic will do the animation for turning Super Sonic and then return to normal. Press B followed by B again and he will do the same thing. You can continue to do this as long as the score continues to add up.

White Sonic: Enable the "Super Sonic animation: trick" and pause when Sonic starts to do the animation. If done correctly, he should be white, If not, hold B to enter slow motion until he turns white.

Pink Sonic: Enable the "Level select", "Debug mode", and "Super Sonic" codes. Collect over 50 rings and transform to Super Sonic. Press B to enter debug mode, scroll to the bottom, then press B again to exit debug mode, If done correctly, you should die. Quickly press B again and go to some land. Find something that will take all your rings away (spikes, etc.) and you will turn back to blue Sonic. Collect 50 rings or over and transform, and Sonic will turn pink, then yellow. To see this happen more slowly, repeat the trick and press Start to pause game play. Keep pressing B button to see it in slow motion.

Green Sonic: Enable the "Level select" and "Debug mode" codes. Select one of the Emerald Hill zones. When you start the level, press B to turn into a ring. Press A(4) to become four rings in a row going up or down. Then hold C + Right for approximately five seconds. You will return to the beginning. Keep pressing A until you are at the top of a waterfall. You may not see your character, but you still will be there. Hold C + Right for approximately five seconds. Finally press B to turn Sonic green.

Invisible Sonic: Enable the "Debug mode" code and start the game. Press B during game play to transform into an object. Repeatedly press A until you transform into a big white machine. Paste it several times until about 17 machines are created. After that, hit them. If done correctly, Sonic will be invisible.

Ashura: Enable the "Debug" code. In Emerald Hill act 1, have Sonic become a waterfall. Place waterfalls in random places on a few screens of the first level and repeat many times. Finally, remain in one place and hold the button to continue creating waterfalls. Turn Sonic into himself again and he should emerge as Ashura, his brother. He resembles Super Sonic but has black around his eyes. Press B to turn him invisible.

To get a partly red and green Ashura, do the same thing to get Ashura but in Emerald Hill act 2. However, stop and go for a couple of times. Then, go all the way back. Press B and you will be a green and red Ashura (look at the life icon).

NOTE: I have no idea why this hedgehog is called ‘Ashura’, or why he is supposedly Sonic’s brother. I found this cheat on a website a long time ago (and never made a note of the URL), so can’t check it out again. Can you shed any light on this? E-mail me if you can!

Oil Ocean music: Select "Options" at the title screen. At the sound test screen, select each of the following sounds in order and press C after each selection: 1, 9, 9, 2, 1, 1, 2, 4. The music from the Oil Ocean zone will play during the entire game.

Emerald Hill music: To hear the Emerald Hill melody at the title screen, go to sound test selection in the options menu and listen to songs 1, 1, 2 and 4 in order. Then, highlight "Player Select" and press Start. You will hear the Oil Ocean music at the beginning of the first level. Reset the game, and you will hear the Emerald Hill music throughout the game.

Super Sonic sign: Get all of the Chaos Emeralds and transform into Super Sonic. Try to have at least fifty rings when you finish the level. After completing the level, run off screen and wait until the end-of-level sign shows Sonic. When it does, transform into Super Sonic. The sign will show Super Sonic for one second, then show blue Sonic again.

Starry Super Sonic: Get all the Chaos Emeralds and collect fifty rings, but do not transform into Super Sonic yet. Find an invincibility monitor and spin (do not jump) into it. Then, transform into Super Sonic. If done correctly, the stars will surround Super Sonic until he runs out of rings and transforms back into blue Sonic. Note: This does not improve Super Sonic's performance.

Mental Sonic: Enable the "Debug Mode" code. Press B + C during game play. Sonic will go mental, and dash about on the spot, turn upside down, and do other stunts. This can also be done with Tails.

No Boss music: Enable the "Level select" code and go to a Boss. Press Start then hold B. The game should now be in slow motion. When the Boss enters the screen, hit him, then release B. The game should pause. Press Start and the Boss music will stop.

Super Sonic music when playing as Sonic: Enable the "Debug", "Level select", and "Super Sonic" codes. Go to Casino Night zone and turn into Super Sonic. Run into the strange Bumper Bug that you normally cannot destroy to lose all your rings and become regular Sonic. Instead of the Casino Night music playing, the Super Sonic music will still be playing.

Shielded Tails: Enable the "Debug mode" code and hit a shield. Place a teleport box down and hit that. Tails will have a permanent shield.

Tails X2: Enable the "Level select" and "Debug mode" codes. Go to the Sky Chase level. Use debug mode to create a transfer box and break it open. When you hear Sonic die, press B to enter debug mode again. Move the pointer up until you see Tails and exit debug mode. Then, jump to have two Tails’.

Play at the end of a level: Enable the "Debug mode" code. At the end of the first Aquatic Ruins level, press B and change into one of the drill enemies. Place him all over the screen. You must do this before you hit the sign. Hit the Sonic sign and complete the level. Then, press B to change into an object and fly above a drill enemy. Press B again and drop onto an enemy. You will die while your points are being added up, but the game will continue as if you had completed the level. The next screen will say you are in Aquatic Ruin part two, but you will start on the last screen of the first part of that level, and you can play freely in that area until you hit the sign.

Fun way to get Emeralds: Enable the "Debug mode" code and place seven checkpoints in a row. Then, turn yourself into a Ring. Place 50 or more on Tails. Turn back into Sonic. Then, jump in the stars.

GAME GLITCHES
