It is late on Saturday May 18, 2002 at CP Magnolia, Oakland, CA. This is the IOALB18 or empty baretables from Oakland to Long Beach (Dolores/ICTF). This pic is made possible by the recent rerouting of this train down the coast instead of the Cal-P route traveling down the central valley via Tehachapi and Cajon. My work is in the background conveniently lit up by the container yard with night traffic. Here is the lead unit UP2865 and UP6317.

This is rare SD45T-2 UP2865 (ex-UP4945/ex-SP6826/ex-SP9224) which has been recently renumbered to make room for the flare flag SD70M's fillking up the end of the monster 1100 unit order.

Trailing unit UP6317 had brought up the ILCOA from L.A. via the coast over the previous day but for the return trip the engineer chose to take the SD45T-2 down (lucky for me) after originally telling DS58 that UP6317 would be in the lead. An Amtrak wye job that took 30 minutes also helped while this train was set to depart. Here the train is waiting at the signal into Jack London Square waiting for the local W. Oakland Carmen to put a FRED on the last baretable.

And off she goes with a nice late departure through Jack London at the end of Oakland's Portfest.
