I am currently seeking an internship in the environmental field for the summer of 2001.
I graduated with honors from the University of Florida, College of Natural Resources and Environmental Science. I received a B.S. in Environmental Science. Currently I am enrolled in the Masters Program at the University of Florida, Department of Urban and Regional Planning.
While receiving my B.S. in Environmental Science I learned valuable techniques targeted at maintaining the environment. I studied wetland delineation, hydrology, and geology. I also learned excellent communication, verbal, and research skills. I am now trying to integrate my environmental skills with a strong Geographic Information System (GIS) background.
While studying in the program I also work for the GeoPlan Center located within the Department. GeoPlan is a multidisciplinary GIS Laboratory. Faculty and Researchers from Planning, Landscape architecture, Wildlife Ecology, Forestry, Botany and other departments utilize the lab's hardware and software to perform analyses and run models. My responsibilities in GeoPlan include quality assurance and quality control of data and metadata for the Florida Geographic Data Library version 4.0 (www.fgdl.org). I execute these tasks using various ESRI products including Arc View 3.2 (with spatial analyst), Arc Info 7.2.1 (Unix), Arc Info 8 (windows NT). In addition to the GeoPlan job I also worked in the GIS department at Wilson Miller during the summer of 2000.
In addition to the above mentioned software packages I also have learned many other programs that help me with GIS analysis and database management: AutoDesk products including 3D Studio VIZ and AutoCAD; Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint. In addition GIS programming skills including AML and Avenue.
My goal for the summer of 2001 is to find a job that utilizes my GIS skills as well as my environmental background.
