~ PASSAGE 176 ~
CULT ANALYSIS

Rosyln placed her hand on his right shoulder to convince the anxious gnome. " Don't worry Timbra, he doesn't seem that bad."

The cleric scrunched his face " Kobolds are evil, miss. Never forget that."

She casually retrieved her waterskin, took a swig, and offered it to the reluctant humanoid. " Why don't you have him tell us about this dragon. I'm very curious about it." Timbra began his translations and what he initially received was a lot of inane babble from Pomeer. It was as if the kobold was out of his mind. Roslyn urged Timbra to continue impressing the issue upon the beast until he understood what they wanted. Timbra asked where the kobolds had gotten the dragon originally and what they intended to do with it when the wyrmling got older. Pomeer seemed to be confused on how to answer, but inadvertantly admitted that he had no idea where the dragon came from initially. He later learned that it was bestowed upon them by the Grygen, the mightiest of Draconian Gods. The kobolds planned to raise this beautiful creature to represent the deity they knew existed for them.

" Hmm, that is interesting." reflected Roslyn " I suppose they mean well, but if they manage to keep it alive for any length of time, it'll mean trouble that's for sure."

NOON: Nearly an hour had passed for the trio and it already felt as if they were working on days. They ate cold rations and chatted briefly on how they thought the fellowship was faring. Timbra glanced at Pomeer as he stirred among the broken wood scraps. " I wonder how long we should stay here and guard. I think one day should do considering our lack of food. What say you, dear druidess?"

She regarded the question rather methodically " No, we shouldn't have to wait here more than a few hours before the others get back. We will have to find more water before too long, however. I imagine the others will find the goblin's source or, if need be, we can go back and ask the kobolds."

Timbra shook his head " No, I don't feel that's a good idea at 'tal. If your friends fall, then we should leave here immediately." He tapped his chin lightly with his index finger " With your guidance of course."

Roslyn scoffed " There's nothing to worry about." She watched the kobold as he played with an old trophy bearclaw he had found broken from the slick wall high above. " Say, ask Pomeer how the kobolds and the goblins came to be sharing this place. I'd like to find out a little more about it."

Timbra gave his own opinion. " My guess is that both cults moved down here to claim the place for themselves, hence the two factions I heard your tracker talking about. Teflar spoke briefly of the footprints he had discovered surrounding the place."

Before any more was spoken, the eastern door opened into the room!
Timbra and Roslyn both jumped and turned to face what was about to appear; their weapons poised for combative defense. Aramil stuck his head into the room making sure it was safe. " My god, man." relieved the gnome as he trotted over the broken wood towards the door " You had us both worried. What have you all been up too!?" The mage didn't speak but allowed a path for Erelis and Gailwind to carry their unconscious ranger into the room. Pomeer saw the group enter and ran through the western door in fear!

" There he goes again." Nanith said dejectedly trying to point at the humanoid. His hand stopped halfway, however, and he grimaced in pain.

Roslyn hurried over to help with the wounded, though she realized that her healing spells had been tapped yesterday evening. Looking back over her shoulder, she said to the gnome. " Timbra, call him back. We won't hurt him." The little cleric hobbled over to the door and looked out. A few seconds later he replied " Ah miss, he fell into that pithole again." He shook his head incredibly " Just doesn't learn does it."

Aramil directed that the ranger be positioned at the southern end of the room beneath a sofa frame. Gailwind explained to Roslyn what had transpired since their departure over an hour ago. When the lorist delivered the bad news, Nanith closed his eyes momentarily and sighed.
" Oktavianus and Vrai..." He bit his lip and dropped his head. His tear-filled eyes flashed heartfelt sorrow at Roslyn; the first time he seemed visibly torn on this mission.
