~ PASSAGE 173 ~
THE WARRING WOUNDED

Teflar's lack of strength seemed apparent as he fumbled with shaking hands at his blood-stained shirt. Erelis rubbed his injured legs and muttered about becoming dizzy. The group still had debilitating wounds to overcome and they discussed their latest choice ahead of them. The hobbit supported a valid point to slay the goblinoids in the southern bunkhouse, but the others still had to wonder if battle was going support their cause as they neared their goal. It seemed every skirmish drained a little more life out of the original StarPoint Raven fellowship.

Aramil led the way into the mall and waved the team after him. Coming to the antique door, he listened for any obvious sounds and there were none.
Vrai sneered as he came up behind the mage " One trained in stealth should do this deed. I will volunteer or I may be better served covering the door with my bow." The party realized that their cold-blooded mercenary was the perfect man for the job and they allowed him to open the portal into the next room. All was still as the door moved inward; a good sign their enemy was in slumber. The elf's eyes glossed over as he slinked over to the haphazard beds.

The magician turned to the others remaining in the main hall. " We must be ready in case any of the goblins should get free and try to run for help. None must pass." The emphasized words had a coldness that sounded half-broken and distant.

Nanith sweated profusely as if nerve overtook his earlier words of slaughter. He paused near the door awkward on how to proceed but followed the wizard's counsel nonetheless. Erelis and Teflar waited nearby in their own states of concealed pain. Gailwind kept his ears cocked to the center door and reported that the muffled noises started to dissipate.

Vrai's shadow converged with the darkness of the room as the silence hardened. Within moments, however, all hell broke loose! A sharp gravelly scream rocked the bunkhouse and much movement was heard! It seemed the humanoids had awakened!!

The team felt the archer had caught himself in a deadly trap and rushed inside to defend him. What the lead pair of Aramil and Nanith saw, however, was Vrai slicing a goblin to pieces while the rest swarmed in on him from all sides. Raising their crossbows quickly , the doorway heroes fired two bolts into the writhing mass striking each one goblin. The archer traded vicious blows with one foe and both were severely wounded. The beast collapsed upon the bed and the mercenary dropped to his knees.

" No!" For a moment Naniths face flashed sorrow, but just as quickly changed to one of hatred. " Come and get me you foul creature!" The hobbit sprung forward to engage the nearest enemy in combat. As the closest rightside goblin turned to face the rush of heroes into the room, Aramil's missle pierced straight through the monster's head! Clearly, the mage's talent lay more in the art of rangefare than did his magicks.

Vrai tried staggering to his feet but, at once, the injured goblin jumped upon him engaging the archer in a fierce mid-floor wrestling match. The beast started choking the archer until the mercenary fell into a limp state.
Before another foe could stamp the elf's head into the dirt, Erelis jumped out to defend him with scythe poised. The humanoid smacked the psion across the face sending him stumbling back onto the eastern hammocks. Just as an opportune strike was about to do-in Meadows, Aramil's third bolt launched out catching the attacker in the left shoulder! The goblin grabbed his injured arm, dropped his spiked club and howled in pain.

Nanith received a gash in the ribs and the right ear trying to fight off his attacker. His defensive posture was poor despite his best efforts to stand his ground against the enemy. Teflar, who tried to help his comrades, grabbed the doorframe and leaned against it for support. He started to slide down the wooden beam slowly; something was clearly wrong.
