Aramil remarked with a sharp whisper " I think we may be found out! We should go in and shut the door. The other barracks may not hear us while we deal with these guards first." The mage drew his dagger and led the rest into the room for close-quarters combat.
Nanith was in a fluster; he stabbed at everything nearby but couldn't make headway on how to stop the foes from coming alive to kill him. As the other three beasts came to full realization on what was occuring, the fellowship swarmed into the room promptly closing the door behind them.
Despite the odds on surprise, this was anything but an advantageous fight on the party's behalf. The goblins were fierce and well-coordinated. They tossed easily-accessed soot into everyone's face and jumped at the heroes just like the lorist had predicted; like cornered animals. Teflar, while fussing with his dirty eyes, received a stab into his ribs from a pike. Aramil was choked back and had to fall away or be freely assaulted.
Vrai somersaulted forward, came up behind a bounding goblin and slit his throat from behind.
Erelis came to the rogues aid and chopped off one enemy's head with a powerful sickle slash, turned and chopped down another before the ranger could be further harrassed.
Despite Nanith's misgivings this evening, he poked his enemy in the shoulder to keep him at a respectable distance while they squared off. It was an even battle before Vrai entered the mix; the mercenary smacked the goblin aside and it flew into the northeast corner. Before the small monster could right itself, Vrai bound forward. His dagger stabbed out into the gobin's head killing it instantly. Nanith stood back relieved at the outcome.
Erelis leapt onto the western beds and momentarily tripped forward because the hammocks proved unsteady. The last goblin apparently ready to flee for its life, tried to bypass the psion. Erelis kicked his legs out to stop the beast, but he received a wicked gash to his upper left thigh from a vicious pike slash!
Meadows was sparked to anger, he popped up and cut down the lone goblin from behind as it tried to run away.
The party was victorious but paid a price in wounds.
Aramil finished wiping soot from his eyes and opened the door they had previously come through. Intense concentration crossed his face as he listened into the grand mall. " Friends, all is clear and we are not yet found out." Still wiping at his stinging eyes, he added " Do we now deal with the others or move on and trust that we will not soon be followed?"
A few sweat drops poured down the hobbit's face while he remained
poised for action.
" I say we do what Vrai first suggested. We don’t need any resistance if our group needs to come back this way." The following words were uttered very carefully " I say we make our way to the other bunkhouse and slit every goblins throat we can find in there..." Nanith's teeth clenched in mixed angst while awaiting the other's reaction.
