~ PASSAGE 170 ~
SORROWFUL AFTERMATH

Teflar quickly drew his swords and nimbly twirled them about. Watching the last beast beat upon the druidess, more rage boiled within him.
" Protect the little ones!" He leapt forward to her aid just as the bugbear turned to face the woodsman. In a precisioned swing, Teflar sliced his longsword through the monster's throat. Blood spurt down the humanoid's chest as it fell backward over a splintered bedframe. Gasping for last breaths and rolling its eyes rearward marked the end of the rampage brought on by these terrible animals.

Nanith nimbly crawled out from beneath his shelter of furniture and rushed forward to the fallen cleric. With tear-filled eyes, he carefully brushed the dwarfs beard between his fingers. " There must be something we can do!"
Aramil moved mechanically towards the dead Oktavianus. Kneeling slowly, he reached a trembling hand out to touch the priest's face. The mage's groaned admitted this surreal incident shook him to the core.

Teflar watched impassively while the party railed against the fate that had befallen them. With a deliberate yank, the ranger freed his previously misshot arrow lodged in a nearby shattered chair. He placed the missile at the cleric's feet and spoke in a small whisper. " I'm sorry good dwarf. I failed you in your time of need. May you find peace and rest with the god you devoted your life too." Teflar grasped Oktavianus' warhammer and placed it across his chest and carefully closed the dwarf's eyes. He stood, sorrow etched in his face, until Aramil without warning, snapped his head back emitting a cry of primal grief for his lost teammate. Nanith went about smashing the slain bugbears bodies with anything he could get his hands upon. Instinctively, Timbra shut the eastern door to block out the due chaotic rage exhibited by the fellowship.

Erelis picked his way through the broken wood and checked Roslyn's vitals.
" She's still breathing, but she took quite a beating." Vrai stood behind the psion and said cooly " As hard as it sounds, we need to forget those bodies. Despite all this noise, we still have the benefit of secrecy before us; behind is a different matter entirely. If you can revive the guide, then the weakened gnome shall guard her from marauding kobolds and warn us if something comes at us from our backs."
Timbra understood his given role and languished beside the unconscious druid.
" What energies I have to keep her alive through the day, I will do my utmost."

Erelis gestured for the men to give him space and he bent down over the druidess's body. With his eyes focused hard on her pate, they watched as her soft moaning disappeared. Seconds passed quickly, and with it, Roslyn came to life as if she had only merely tripped to the ground. She rose up to a sitting position and regarded everyone curiously. " What happened? Where are the monsters?"

Noone had time to cater to her right then but firm orders were given to both to hide within the room and keep on the lookout for future danger.

Nanith wiped his nose lethargically across his forearm, and with slumped shoulders, made his way over to his belongings. Leaving his fellow hobbit in the hands of Erelis and Timbra, he moved towards the western door.
" Where are you, little bugger!?" he howled after the escaped kobold. The rogue noticed the hallway was clear, but more importantly, discovered that Pomeer had not escaped. He was in the bottom of the pit whimpering more out of fear than pain he might had encountered from his fall into the jagged pikes. Ninnipin reported to everyone his finding of the kobold and all agreed to leave him there until they returned.

Teflar spoke to the others in a rapid, businesslike tone " We need to get ready to move or for anything else to come through that door. Make sure we get Oktavianus' pack and anything useful from the beasts." Everyone helped Gailwind pick through the items found on the four bodies. Sixty gold pieces were split cleanly between the conscious fellowship and the crossbolts were split between Nanith and Aramil. The wizard took careful consideration of the dwarf's possessions and planned to one day find the cleric's family and return the heirlooms respectively to them. When that would be was clearly beyond the darker days ahead.
