~ PASSAGE 167 ~
POMEER UNLEASHED

Vrai snapped off another set of arrows that killed one goblin and severely injured another. Aramil moved in next to the archer; he wanted his chance to put the beasts down for good. Allowing the trio of goblins to carefully leg over the walk, the mage extended his arms and cast a spell that drugged them down into a deep slumber. The three monsters staggered and fell off the steady floor plank triggering the nasty trap. The floor tiles on both sides fell away on tight wall hinges dropping the humanoids into a 10' hole spiked on the bottom with sharp, jagged wood. The pain of impact roused the goblins from their sleep briefly with wails of hurt before death greedily claimed them.

The archer, realizing the immediate threat was over, advanced into the room. " Vrai, that was amazing!" Nanith praised from his spot behind the table. " Youre a one-man killing machine." He carefully made his way over to the mercenary and acknowledged the mage with a smile. " You two took care of this evil group, but I suspect there might be more."
Vrai half-smiled at the rogue's glowing assessment " Well, compared with rabbits in the bush, goblins make much easier targets."

Nanith and Roslyn desired to explore the circular chamber while the rest returned to the hallway where the slain foes lay. Vrai picked a few arrows from the dead bodies after first searching them for precious commodities. Erelis found one still alive and notified the mercenary. Ichor bled from it's side wound into an ever-widening, sticky pool.
Running a hand through his tossled black hair, the archer looked over at Gailwind. " You haven't much time, lorist. The way he's spitting blood, I suspect my arrow has skewered a lung." He thought for a moment " I don't suppose any in the pit still live?"

The dwarf confirmed that all were dead from where he stood. The sage moved toward the goblin; it breathed slowly with eyes half-lidded. Gailwind spoke in harsh, broken words in which the humanoid replied briefly. " It says that the white lizard is close at hand." The elf turned to watch the hobbits return with skips along the catwalk. The sage continued " The dragon was moved less than an hour ago."

Nanith grinned when he returned to the group's circle " Somehow I feel that Pomeer might still play a critical role in this quest. It would wise for him to bring the wyrm under control." The hobbit shifted his excited feet. " Pomeer has been looking after the creature for a long time. The way he fretted over those figurines tells me that he liked his job.

Vrai used a scrap of cloth to clean an arrow yanked from the enemy's bowels. " You may be right, Nanith. I have a hard time imagining that a scrawny kobold could have any kind of power over a dragon, but I've also heard that whites aren't too keen of intellect, at least, not in their youth." He gently placed the shaft back into its quiver. " Even if Pomeer could control the beast, I'm not sure what incentive that is for us to fetch him. Suppose he instructs the dragon to attack us? It's too dangerous to be put in the hands of a scheming, black-hearted kobold."

Aramil listened carefully to the debate. " Ahem!" clearing his throat " As a child, I was witness to the fact that some creatures, birds, etc, attach themselves to the first living being they see. My Master called it imprinting. Knowing that whites are not very intelligent and this dragon is very young, could it be that it may look to Pomeer as some form of parent?"

Vrai's eyes lit up " My point exactly. How will it react to the sight of its 'mother' on a leash? Are we intending to set Pomeer free of his bonds?" The elf's eyes skirted over the room as if searching for something. He rubbed an index finger against his lower lip. " Certainly, I'm at a loss to suggest how we might bring the beast back to the kobold queen without killing it. If it's too big for us to carry, we'll have to leave it in a state fit for walking on its own. We must proceed with extreme caution."

Oktavianus stretched his back " I say we get the kobold out of prison and offer it as food to the dragonbeast. When its distracted, we can pound it into submission!" The dwarf reveled in his own merriment.

Teflar had a hard time allowing the archer to diminish the kobold's role and volunteered to get Pomeer himself. The plan was to allow Pomeer to walk free with stern warning for him not to try any tricks for fear of death. Erelis would escort the ranger back to the prison so things went safely.
