Oktavianus was quick to snatch the flask from the ground. He stared at the beautiful container in mixed anger and disbelief " This is of dwarven make!" He popped off the metal top and quickly smelled the contents within. " How dare these bastards use it for vile liqueur!" He shook the liquid out of the flask as he raged on " Now I more bent on evening the score than ever before!"
Aramil regarded the fretting dwarf with a thoughtful countenance.
" Friend, a moment please. That flask that you found, knowing how sturdy dwarvish workmanship is, could we not use it to carry the red fluid and thus ease Nanith's worries about futher loss and spillage? I would mean no offense, but it seems a simple fix to a recurring problem."
Nanith's eyes lifted to the mage and brightened. The priest's brow furrowed and he paused his speech long enough to heed the favor asked.
" Well, knowing that this wasn't mine to begin with, I guess I can go along with it. But!... " he flashed a haughty scowl at Ninnipin" ...if you lose this container of my people, I shall have your hide!"
The hobbit graciously accepted it and poured the soft gel into the decorated phial.
Alongside the slain goblin also lay a shield and half-spear which was promptly retrieved by Erelis. He gave it over to Timbra so the gnome had some sort of protection and weapon for anything nasty they would encounter.
Filing through the southern door, the party entered a small hallway {35'x9'} crossing them from west to east. Two wooden doors lay exposed; one to the immediate south and another to the far eastern end of the lobby.
Aramil tapped the rogue's shoulder " Since this door is so close at hand, perhaps you should give it your expert touch first."
Nanith fluttered his eyebrows with anticipation. " I was just about to suggest that. Nothing like a trap or locked door to get my blood boiling." The halfling stepped softly over to the door and hunched down into his customary listening position; he placed his left ear against the door. " I hear movement." he whispered immediately " I think there are more of these goblinoids on the other side."
Vrai wanted to explore the other door before they decided their next plan of action, but the thief warned him of being too hasty. Having the archer wait, Nanith crept down the hall and was gone many seconds allowing the group to study the southern door as if it were about to explode any given second. When the thief returned, he gave his report; " We have a floor trap at the other end. What do we do now?"
Teflar watched the southern door with anxious eyes " Well, it is clear that we cannot stay here. Which is it? Do we face certain combat through the portal, almost certain to give us more clues as to what is down here, or do we risk the trap and the door down the hall?"
Vrai's brow raised in thought as he considered strategy. " The floor trap may be of some use to us if Nanith can tell us its design. If I can get past, I'll listen at the other door and then decide our course. If any monsters are discovered, we can kill them one at a time as they come out. Certainly, I could pick off a few with my bow." Teflar paused, his eyes seeming drained and tired " Nanith , this floor trap, is it positioned and set up in such a way that we could use it in combat?" The rogue brought everyone slowly down the hall and stopped 15' before the door. " If we walk dead center and manage to keep our feet within a 12" diameter wide line, we'll be okay. One false move will cave in the floor to a pit below."
Vrai smiled as if understanding a hidden punchline. He was the first to move toward the door carefully bypassing the pit trap. He was over quite quickly and he placed his forehead against the wooden door. After a few moments he said " All is silent within."
Nanith looked at the rest of the party. " I think we should determine
what awaits us behind this door." He walked nimbly over to Vrai and studied the door handle which appeared locked. " If we can set an ambush for the goblinoids behind the southern door, we could wait for the
creatures to file past the pittrap and into the room we are now about to explore."
The rogue pressed a miniscule pin into the wide keyhole and a tiny click sounded. Nanith scratched the back of his head with a grin " Once they enter the room, we hit them all at once!" The thief smacked his hand hard with emphasis and allowed Vrai to open the door leading further into the dungeon.
