Teflar stepped right out and unleashed an arrow that clattered to the far left side of the room. Two of the goblins instinctively lifted their javelins as the ranger quickly released another arrow that stuck into the left thigh of an enemy goblin. By his creased frown, it seemed obvious that Teflar was still flagging from lack of strength.
Vrai and Oktavianus stood watching this all play out as if getting a read on the initial action. Erelis and Aramil got out in full view to fight the line of rushing humanoids! The wizard released a jet of frosty air that stung the face of one beast 20' away.
Teflar swung his bow left and, aiming at the first goblin he had missed previously, caught it in the right shoulder with a missle. This strike forced an errant throw by the goblin and the spear bounced harmlessly off the northern wall.
While the rest of the fleet bore down on the fellowship, the might of Oktavianus came to bear " Let me at 'em!!" He hefted his warhammer up and waited for the nearest goblin to press in. And one did; bashing a morningstar into the dwarf's chest. It was clear that the priest was slow on the draw, but his counterattack was retaliation enough. The hammer fell on the beast smashing its body into the ground with a thud.
Erelis waited until a goblin was right on top of him before slashing his sickle out and severing the enemy's windpipe!
Teflar dropped his bow, drew both swords and met his foes head on. The poor lighting held the ranger in check because it was hard to see just where the goblins were swinging. The woodsman sidestepped to his left drawing them forward and off balance. In a whirl of blades, Teflar decapitated the left goblin and bashed in the face of the right. Urwww!! Grunted the thing as it fell headlong against the dirty wall. The middle dummy crashed down upon it from its upper jagged hook. The pinned monster scrambled to crawl away, but the ranger ended its days with a swordtip into the nape of its neck.
Vrai, with better eyes, released two arrows; one hitting a backup beast in the chest. The mercenary finished him off with a spinning sliced cut to the midsection.
Zing! A spear crashed into the northern wall from the far side of the room.
" We have a holdout!" the archer railed. He bounded forward into the darkness leaving the last two goblins to the likes of the dwarf and psionic.
Oktavinaius seemed to have a hard time with his balance and kept missing the goblin who sparred with him. With a quick thrust, the monster stuck his spear deep into the dwarf's stomach!
Without a sound, the cleric keeled over.
" Nooooo!" Teflar cried out to his companion. Just as the goblin drew up his spiked club for a death strike, Aramil came to the rescue! The wizard cracked the beast across the head knocking it backwards into the floor. The thing moved no more.
Another javelin split the air and cut into Nanith's leg; he was standing innocently behind the vicious melee quietly holding his chalice. The rogue howled out in pain and spilled the ooze.
" Damn it! Get him Vrai! Get that bastard!" The bowman came quickly upon the low, far wall. It resembled the barrier the dwarf identified before for its illusionary nature. The elf sprang over the divide to encounter whatever was sniping them.
Erelis swung out at the last villain and sliced its body open with a mighty uppercut. The goblin howled and died on the spot.
As if to signify the end of a victorious display of battle, Gailwind's torch wisped out throwing the whole scene into darkness. The sound of a brief scuffle resounded across the room and seconds after it ended, the archer returned.
" That was a scout. Killed him. We shouldn't be noticed...not yet anyway."
Roslyn lit a torch and held it aloft " Is..is..the priest okay?" The dwarf sat on the floor with blood trickling slowly from a disguised wound beneath his shirt. He responded with a sad grumble " I don't know how much further I can push on. I have hardly enough strength to stand."
Teflar knelt beside him and agreed " Yes, I am feeling the effects through my nerves as well. I don't have much left. Time and group tenacity are waning and we may have a while to go to reach this dragon."
The cleric grimaced " I think I can heal myself, but as to the lasting effects I don't know. I can only try one last time today."
The druidess came beside him " I can help you back on your feet, priest. I will offer my healing; we need you now more than ever."
The archer agreed " Yes, fix yourself up now because we need to press on. It won't be long before we are found in these fouls dens by the swarms of the citadel."
