The archer acknowledged her sensibilities with a quick nod and deferred to the rogue " Okay, lead the way." Nanith was pleased with the idea and was helped over the wall by the lift of Teflar. The mercenary elf soon followed by springing over the divide with his lithe body. The rest of the team waited in the tiny room as the pair tried to clear their way ahead.
6 PM: Nanith and Vrai entered a 20'x20' room once they passed the overhead section wall identified previously by the dwarf. An old firepit, blackened by soot streaks spreading outward from the center, stood against the northern edge of the wall. Scanning quickly, the pair saw that filth was everywhere; stains of unknown sources covered the stones and scraps of fur were strewn about. Around the corner to the left of the room, stammering voices were heard close by.
Nanith motioned at Vrai to hold his position. He lifted his index and middle fingers toward his eyes and then toward the gutteral noise. The hobbit remained in a crouched position and creeped closer to the edge of the passageway.
Vrai slowed his breathing to long, rhythmic breaths and held his dagger securely in hand ready to strike at the given moment.
Nanith quickly glanced around the corner and then jolted his head back.
A clattering was heard in the other room along with upraised roars as if the inhabitants had became suddenly excited.
The rogue wiggled his fingers to indicate that there were more than four creatures in the adjacent room. They had to act on a plan now before their window of opportunity was extinguished.
Just then, movement was seen in the doorway! Nanith crept back and curled up against the western wall. He waved a hand for the archer to be patient, but ready. The enemy was near...
6:15 PM
Despite the commotion in the other room, or perhaps because of it, the two spies were not seen or looked for within this tiny guard room. Nanith was able to sneak his head around the corner numerous times to get a good view. He crawled back toward Vrai who, consequently, looked rather bored.
" These are goblins we are dealing with. Not too bright. They are taking target practice with spears in the next room and, apparently, have some sort of contest going. I don't think we can use a sneak attack, but if we act now, perhaps our party can surprise and overtake them by force."
The archer just nodded at these related facts and then followed the rogue as he snuck on back towards the others.
