Erelis replied " The fountainroom door had just as good a chance as being the one. Why are you so concerned with this one, Teflar?"
Nanith entered the dank room behind the others. Switching his weird, fiery fluid-filled chalice from his right to his left hand, he answered the psionic candidly " The fountainroom door might contain something we need and I would think that would be a great place to start, but that door is locked with a key as well."
Rosalyn squinted down the dark hall " It's hard for me to see that far away. Anybody notice anything suspicious? I smell feces and..." she sniffed harder "...wet muskiness."
Aramil offered use of a spell to light the way in case they chose that direction.
" That's probably where the goblins are." said Vrai rather flatly " We should try that way. I doubt they'd use too many doors if these beasts would move freely about. Creaky doors do not make good ambushes."
Nanith checked the dank room door and discovered it was unlocked. " We have a problem here." he spoke in an audible whisper. " Some kind of alarm holds this door shut from the other side and I'm afraid we may trigger it if we go through."
" Are you able to disable it, boy?" asked the moody cleric.
" Maybe... let me try." Nanith carefully set down the chalice and searched his pockets for a knife. Moving his hands along the along the outer casing of the door frame, he managed to snip something that was basically invisible to the others. The hobbit chuckled " There...no alarms will be signaled now."
" Brilliant! " laughed the archer " Shall we continue? I need to see who we are to surprise."
The team was tense when they swung open the door. Nothing awaited them but a desolate, dirty room {20'w x 60'l} that was littered with droppings. Most of the party entering noted that they may have reached a dead end.
Nanith crept about scanning the room carefully. After a minute he noted
" Caltrops litter the floor up ahead. I think we are coming upon something important with all this fuss."
Teflar's eyes tightened and he asked Gailwind for the last torch. Lofting the flame, the fellowship realized that these bypassed pitfalls may give them the momentum they needed.
Roslyn and Erelis moved out ahead and swept the caltroped area clean with the sides of their feet. The sharp points of the jacks tinkled as they rolled and slid across the dirty floor to the edges of the room.
" Don't touch them." warned the psion " They may be coated with poison...not to mention the bacterias that thrive in this place."
Aramil, a cloth covering his nose, slowly made his way around the room avoiding anything threatening.
The archer stood under the doorframe waiting for the reluctant party to retreat. " This room is empty anyhow. Let's move on."
" Not so fast." breathed the dwarf and he slowly paced his way over to the far end of the room. " This is a low wall...four feet high." He turned a bit after patting the stone barrier and gave a wry smile to all. " Another sectioned wall behind drops down about three feet beyond as if to imply a full enclosure of the area. A vision trick. If we are to continue, we have to climb over it."
" Simply amazing. " Vrai answered with feigned appreciation.
