~ PASSAGE 151 ~
A KEY DEAL

Eyes were now focused towards the obvious shine that gleamed from around the dragonchair's toothy jaw. Gailwind asserted " You mean you plan to inspire us to help you then?"

The female kobold shifted casually in her lofty chair " Yes, that is the word I intended...'inspire'." Her doglike features contorted into an oddly, amicable expression.

Still keeping his voice low, Aramil reiterated wih a shrug " I cannot say why, but this key draws me. I will abide by your decisions, but I can only tell you that I feel in my gut that it is important to our quest."

Nanith looked over his shoulder to make sure noone was eavesdropping. Turning back to the group he whispered " I dont think its a good idea to take what we want by force. We dont need to lose lives unnecessarily." The suspicious little hobbit glanced left and right over his shoulder once again. " Why would we want to turn back now? We came all this way and might as well get something out of it." Nanith indicated his head in the mage's direction " Maybe whatever lies behind the gallery doors could aid us."

The group spent a few moments rectifying their decisions before presenting their answer as Ninnipin turned to face her once again with a more menacing stance " Ive got a few questions." Without waiting, he fired away " When we met the Striding Guardians, they said it was the kobolds that were poisoning them. Why would they think that? If you dont know what is killing the land, then how can you offer your assistance?"

The kobold leader watched the hobbit through dark red eyes. " Any mischief involved with the forest people do not lie with our peaceful society. All the troubles were brought about by the goblins. Perhaps these trees have us confused with that malignant race by pure association of residence." She rubbed her two nubbed horns tenderly and verified " The assistance we give is the captive you have. He will guide you safely into the dangerous quarters of this castle."

The group ceded their conference to listen in on the interrogation " What do you intend to do with this dragon?" continued Nanith " In helping you, we might be aiding a greater evil. We wont help if your motives lead to destruction anyway." He wiped away sweat drops from his brow with his forearm and awaited her answer.

She stood up slowly and replied with her tiny voice " My name is Draysyl and I represent this holy site as the host for an infamous dragon from the First Age. We are only servers of our ancestors and intend to rebuild this once-glorified structure. No malice do we hold onto the outside inhabitants. Only the dregs you will soon see within."

Gailwind breathed to himself " Splendor was right...what do you know."

Rosalyn added her fluctuating opinion " I don't think that these creatures alone could be responsible for something like the plague attacking the forest; they don't seem capable of something so grand. We should take this opportunity to investigate a more powerful force behind all this. If we can somehow recapture this stolen dragon, we would have the upper hand in our future dealings."

In whole, the fellowship seemed to agree with this wisdow. They were in no position to leave the canyon with only a shaky captive with limited information for them, not foolish enough to attack their benefactors on enemy territory and perhaps they wanted to see that legendary dragon for themselves.

" And if we help you..." proposed Erelis " ...this key opens the dragon doors in the southeastern sector? Do you know what lies inside this gallery?"

The leader listened to the counsel around her before replying " We were warned to never look inside. If it is a boundless treasure that can sate a man's greed, you'd be fully entitled to it."
The party seemed to find this whole beguiling scenerio as very suspicious, but nonetheless, were going to now take their chances...for better or worse.
