~ PASSAGE 119 ~
THE DARKEST SHADOW

Nanith scrunched his nose and twisted the book longways as if to gain some knowledge of the content. " I have no idea what this says. It is beyond me."
Gailwind stooped over his shoulder and agreed. " This must be Noleratis's arcane tomes. A mighty find here in the crypt." As the nomination was spoken, the torch sputtered and threatened to extinguish. " Let us tarry no longer....we are being watched."

Ninnipin, clearly agitated, eyed their surroundings and shifted closer to the adept fighters. " I'm not sure if anyone wishes to take the rest of the treasures, but we should probably do so quickly."

Aramil walked to the coffin, leaned in and removed the other book from its station. Scanning the plum cover, he noted its aesthetic beauty and tucked it gently underneath his left arm.

Loten sheathed his sword " I cant sense anything special from the mage blade. Perhaps it will now be used to fight evil instead of being wielded to aid it." He reached over, grabbed the carved hilt, and pulled it gently from the crooked phalanges of the skeleton. The skull seemed to grimace at his detractors as they cleaned his burial ornaments from the tomb. After everyone accepted the paladin's take, they filed through the masoleum door noting a stiff chill emulate in the air.

Roslyn shuddered and kept close to the wizard as he placed the book within his backpack. Teflar pulled the doors closed and directed the others. " Let's move fast. I don't think we will get off that easily messing with a sorcercer's spoils!"

Nanith nodded a bit more relaxed " Let's make for the main courtyard and get our bearings. The injured must go first."
Erelis grasped the coil of rope dangling where they had left it and hoisted himself up. While the psionic pulled himself up through the trapdoor, Loten examined his new longsword under the failing torchlight.

Roslyn was next and she was helped up by the dwarf. Gailwind spoke with great concern " I have no more torches and we are minutes away from losing all light to aid us." No sooner had the sage spoke his last words, when the room dropped to an unbearable degree of cold. {30F}

A dark shadow suddenly appeared before them against the western wall!

Nanith uttered a wary observance " We're not out of evil's way just yet."

SSSSSSSSS!!!! A great amalgam of shadow twisted in contortioned movement and teriblewhispers were faintly heard.

" Move your ass, halffoot!" shouted the priest with furious whelm. He raised his medallion with shaky hands and stood rigid in the room's center " Stay away from us you foul devil!"

The black thing slowly pulsated, took the form of a distinct being, and faced the companions standing in angst before it. Almost immediately, the sages' torchlight snapped out and the team fell into complete and utter darkness. A sinister cackle, described only by one's most remembered nightmare, growled forth chilling the hair on the back of everyone's neck.
