Roslyn sat beside Aramil, leaned over and pressed his forehead with the palm of her hand. Speaking words of encouragement and consolation, fellow halfling Ninnipin hopped behind her and asked through worried voice " Will they be okay?"
Letting her actions speak volumes, Tueke whispered soothing words until the mage slowly opened his eyes. She remained firm until the leader attempted to gain a sitting position and then scramble to his knees. Roslyn held him still with support while Nanith jumped around the room in joy.
" Nanith, wait a minute..." directed the paladin Help me over to Erelis. I believe that Heironeous will heed my call and help our friend to some extent. The hobbit skipped over and tugged at the knight until they surrounded the psionic's form. Placing his hands on the fallen companion's head, Loten prayed in a clear, soft voice until Meadows started moving.
Nanith was then redirected to stand against the eastern doors posting as guard while Teflar tended to Loten's abdominal wounds. Marks grimaced in pain as he lay flat on his back. The woodsman picked through his healing kit searching for the salves to stop the bleeding and disinfect the exposed flesh.
Roslyn watched the wizard stand with a confused stare; the effect of the latest minutes lost to his conscience. Aramil had fully recovered under Rosyln's ministrations, but Erelis remained wary with an extreme headache; a result of a concussion.
As Teflar applied the same measure of bandages to himself, Nanith queried
" Can anyone read these words!?"
Slowly but surely, the fellowship came together and viewed the masoleum door.
Letters scrawled across the slick frame in stout decree:
EK ZMIP AIYUZ CMY SMRGY;
CMY GUOK, UMY ZMYYMR, UMY BMRFYHIBG ZVFPP DIUHGY EK VMIY;
I RIPP YIZG MU TDG FPTFY FZ JIUW!
Below the words and three feet from the floor, a black, hollow half-cup extended from the door as if waiting for some offering. " These words must have been written by a madman." Nanith commented with a frown. He traced one of the words with a chubby, index finger trying to pronounce the esoteric letters. " Bah! I'm not sure in what language this was written, but it's not one I can comprehend."
The paladin scanned the script picking it apart with the lilt of his eyes.
" I would at least like to make an educated guess. I believe the writing may hold a clue. It reminds me of some riddles that my mother would play with me as a child. If you substitute one letter with another, a code can be written. Logic would give us pieces of the puzzle. By looking for patterns, the message can slowly be deciphered." He swung his head around " Does anyone have pen and parchment? This would be next to impossible to do in my head, but together we may make some progress.
Roslyn sidled next to Nanith. " Krisaya should be here soon. Perhaps she can help us in our study of these liquids. Gailwind may have all the writing materials we would need sir!"
Loten nodded while musing over the last sentence of the arcane message. His brow creased in intense concentration as he waited for the trio to arrive.
