~ PASSAGE 113 ~
FENDED FOES

The zombie bent over Erelis ready to strike him dead before Nanith crawled out from under the lab table. Challenging the malicious sentry, he pelted it with two darts that bounced harmlessly off the dull armor. The hobbit launched two more darts at the zombie as it lunged for him. The missles did little to deter the ghastly guard after one innocuously stuck in its forehead. Ninnipin scrambled counterclockwise along the wall while the thing moaned in crazed excitement.

Loten, battling his foe fiercely, received a sword right through his stomach. In pure reaction, the paladin swung his whole body cleaving the zombie's legs off!!! Marks fell to the floor in stark agony as the tide of battle faltered from the fellowship's grasp.

Teflar moved backwards in a dizzy stumble practically tripping over the little, female halfling standing behind his knees. The ranger received a nasty slash to his chest as he tried righting his feet. Ducking left in a learned move, he returned the favor by chopping off the monster's left hand! The other beast slashed the ranger's right forearm causing blood to run freely down his wrist. It was clear the vertiginous drink had stunted the woodsman's grace.

Aramil, with autonamous movement, tried reloading his crossbow, but it failed to comply fast enough as his enemy lunged at him. The wizard received a smashing blow across the face from an iron sword and he fell hard to the ground not to get back up. Roslyn immediately jumped to his aid with her sickle raised in a hard, halfling defense. The undead guard swung clumsily at Tueke who rolled away quick, but the tip of its blade clipped her right ear. In a high-pitched squeal, she jumped up and slammed her sickle through the guard's groin! The thing collapsed awkwardly in front of her.

Loten, dealing with his severe injury, chose to get up and attack the nearest zombie with renewed fury. He chopped his blade across the back of one of the eastern pair as they groped for Teflar. The thing grunted a muffled groan and slowly turned toward the paladin. In answer, Marks sent its head sailing across the room with a mighty cross-cleave!
" For her glory Heironeous!!" he roared while glaring at the next blasphemous creation standing nearby. He swept his longsword down in a might chop and smote the thing down; it would pester the ranger no longer.

Nanith seemed to relish the taunts he caused as he beckoned the last standing zombie toward him. Cursing his recent lousy aim, he refocused and launched two darts that struck soundly. One punched through the monster's right eye; the other, its crusty throat. It growled a horrid wail as worms poured from its mouth. Before it stepped forward in unrelenting pursuit, Teflar flanked the beast with a final blow that ended the terrible crisis once and for all.

The stink was threefold while the battered gang breathed heavily in the dank cellar. For all their glorious heroics in this vicious stand against a predetermined enemy, there was a heavy price to pay for their solidarity. Roslyn glanced at the two severely injured warriors standing nearby and then to the prone, bleeding companions about her feet. She prayed and then spoke her first acts of grace. " Gailwind is fetching the cleric. There is much healing we need to do. Let's get started."
