REAGARDING ESLO'S ENTRY INTO THE ENVIROME
FROM THE OFFICE OF
HRM JOSE IZZAGUERRA
Today marks a remarkable day for Eslo's ongoing commitment to rainforest and environmental preservation.  As of September 6th 2002, Eslo has joined the ENVIROME.  The ENVIROME is Emerging Nations Villifying (the) International Ravishment Of Mother Earth.  Founded by the Kingdom of Torhavn, it has demonstrated that the micronational community is interested in the concepts of sustainability and protection of the Earth's flora and fauna.

Sustainability is hard to define because it can be can be a concept, a goal, and a strategy. For example, we can talk about sustainable communities, sustainability planning, sustainable forestry, and sustainable organizations.  However, in the context of micronationalism, Eslo hopes to contribute to the ENIVROME group.

In a sense the foundation of the group was inspired by Eslo.  The "Sustainability-you best investment" campaign was expanded single handedly by the environmentalists of Torhavn.  The group now has distinuighed members such as Molossia and Kato, among others.  Through these nations, which Eslo is now a part of, sustainability will speak to the reconciliation of social justice, ecological
integrity, and the well-being of all living systems on the planet.  As part of official Eslonian policy, it is imperative to understand that micronations have the ability to provide sound environmental research and legislation.  All that has been lacking from the international community in regards to environmental preservation has been political will.  Eslo will also aim to change that by encourging other nations to find alternatives to modern day problems.

The term sustainability is also problematic because it can be easily adopted in our language but not necessarily in our actions. However, sustainability is useful because it allows people from different backgrounds and disciplines to come together and discuss a common future. With such an encompassing idea, it is not surprising that there are different issues that people will think are critical. Some people emphasize environmental problems like climate change and biodiversity. Others are concerned with topics such as social justice and global governance. For others the key questions are whether grassroots level versus top-down structural change are the most important places to begin.

Through the ENVIROME, Eslo will push micronational versions of programs such as "Sustainability", "Global Teenager" and "CitiesPlus".  Only through cooperation can real progress be achevied.  It is our belief that each area of Eslonian environmental policy (Ecology, Economy, and Society) has a critical contribution to make to finding the pathway(s) to villify the ravishment of our planet.

A formal delegation will be dispatched to the ENVIROME soon.  The website for the organization is www.enivrome.2ya.com.  The email for the Eslonian Permanent Mission to the ENVIROME will be [email protected].
