FROM THE OFFICE OF

OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE
ESLO AND AERICA SIGN DUAL CITIZENSHIP TREATY
As of August 18, 2002, The Republic of Eslo and the Aerican Empire signed a Treaty of Dual Citizenship.

The treaty comes as a result of Eslos new policy on dual citizens.  The text of the treaty, which is available online at both the Aerican and Eslonian web sites, allows for Aerican citizens to become Eslonian and vice-versa.

However, employees of the federal governments of either nation cannot enjoy the benefits of the treaty.  A main concern was security, said Eslonian Foreign Secretary, Ambassador Bernard Selfin.  Eslo tries to make policies as realistic and manageable as possible.  In the real world, government officials cannot enjoy dual citizenship, which is why this treaty has provisions against that continued Selfin.

Nevertheless, the treaty negotiations do allow for members of provincial, colonial, or state governments to enjoy the benefits of the treaty.  For example, a person can be the governor of a state in Eslo as well as in Aerica.  So long as they are not members of a federal government, there is no problem.

The treaty also calls for increased communication between the governments.  This treaty says that the Heads of State of the nations may make exceptions to the treaty when mutual consent is reached.  In addition, the states must contact each other when a citizen of that state requests citizenship from the other.

Government officials in both nations expressed satisfaction with the treaty.  Aerican Foreign and Diplomacy Minister Tristan Glark praised the relationship with Eslo, which was established in 1998.  It is expected that treaties such as this will reduce paple figures and give micronationalists a larger opportunity to participate in micronations without the overlying suspicion that often comes with multiple nationalities.
