PROCESS ESSAY GUIDELINES

DUE DATE: Monday, Apr. 30th

WHERE: Hand it in to Helen at the end of your Writing Class

 

PAPERS SHOULD HAVE THESE FEATURES:

STUDY THESE FEATURES CLOSELY BECAUSE SOME OF THESE WILL APPLY TO ALL ASSIGNMENTS

  1. process “explanation” style
  2. 500-600 words in length, no more/no less (look under format for more important information regarding the word count)
  3. must use at least 2 properly referenced/cited sources (one may be in Slovak; for each written assignment one source may be in Slovak)
  4. double-spaced (All assignments)
  5. use APA style with proper page numbers, proper title page, margins, reference page, etc. (All assignments)
  6. must be original work (All assignments)
  7. use proper transitions and integrating verbs (All assignments)
  8. must have several or more paragraphs including an introduction, body, and conclusion (All assignments)
  9. must not use first person “I” or “we” or second person “you” unless teacher expressly gives permission. Papers should use the third person (All assignments).
  10. must not use contractions (ex. Wasn’t) (All Assignments)
  11. should use lead-ins or use one of the introduction methods that we have studied (All assignments)
  12. late papers counted off 10pts. per day
  13. must use proper font, only TIMES NEW ROMAN OR ARIAL (All assignments)
  14. improper choice of topic, for example, using the “how to” process style will count off 5pts.
  15. use the word processor (All assignments)
  16. handwritten corrections should not be in your paper (All assignments ; -5 pts. if any are spotted)

17. photocopy all sources used; for more details see under “format” below (All assignments)

18. must use a variety of sources for all assignments (see "Depth of research" in your Persuasive essay

ON PLAGIARISM

I take a dim view of plagiarism. I grade all Level 5 writing papers. If two process essay papers have the same topic, these two papers will be compared and examined very closely.
