Persuasive Essay Guidelines

Due Date: Thursday, April 19
Where: Hand the essay to Helen at the end of your Writing Class

You may choose any topic that has two or more sides to it. The topic should be the one that can have several different opinions about an issue. In other words, your topic should be controversial.
However, you should choose one side, and support it!!!

Use at least three or more quality sources. Poor selection of sources can result in the loss of points on your paper.

PAPERS SHOULD BE WRITTEN IN THE APA STYLE AND BE 500-600 WORDS LONG and…

be double-spaced (All assignments)
use APA style with proper page numbers, proper title page, margins, reference page, etc. (All assignments)
must be original work (All assignments)
use proper transitions and integrating verbs (All assignments)
must have several or more paragraphs including an introduction, body, and conclusion (All assignments)
must not use first person “I” or “we” or second person “you” unless teacher expressly gives permission. Papers should use the third person (All assignments).
must not use contractions (ex. Wasn’t) (All Assignments)
should use lead-ins or use one of the introduction methods that we have studied (All assignments)
late papers counted off 10pts. per day
must use proper font, only TIMES NEW ROMAN OR ARIAL (All assignments)
improper choice of topic, for example, using the “how to” process style will count off 5pts.
use the word processor (All assignments)
handwritten corrections should not be in your paper (All assignments ; -5 pts. if any are spotted)

17. photocopy all sources used and turn them in together with your essay to Helen!

The grading criteria are as follows:

Clear objective and thesis	10%
Logical development of thesis in body Proper reference methods	30% 30%
Mechanics (grammar, spelling, punctuation, etc.) Format	20% 10%
