Heraldry

Until the second half of the 19th century Pieštany used different types of seals with image of King St. Stephen, the patron of local church, with a sceptre, crown and shield with cross with lines of equal length intersecting in the center.

The oldest known Pieštany seal with motive of King St. Stephen dates back to 1564. Seal with image of King St. Stephen was used also by the spa village of Teplice, which later merged with Pieštany. Seal imprints with the lettering: Sigillum Teplicieus a Sigillum Teplicense with image of King St. Stephen are for example on documents from 1771 and 1774.

The substitution of King St. Stephen in the seal field by spa theme aptly documents the change of Pieštany in the 19th century. The use of crutchbreaker - a man breaking his crutch went through several evolutionary phases. The author of the 1897 drawing was designer and painter Arthur Heyer (1870 - 1931).

Symbols of Pieštany are the following:

and city provost´s standard.

The crutchbreaker was accepted as a city sign on October 21, 1945. Coat of arms of Pieštany consists of: right-turned silver naked golden-haired man growing out of the bottom edge of the blue shield, holding golden crutch in both hands and breaking it on his left knee.

Pieštany coat of arms is used on:

on Pieštany city police uniforms

and for marking city police vehicles.

Present-day seal of the city is created by coat of arms of the city with round lettering "MESTO PIEŠTANY" located in the bottom part of the circle.

Pieštany seal is used for sealing selected documents and writings, on Pieštany fair citizenship document and in other cases determined by provost or city representation.

The flag of Pieštany consists of six same stripes starting from the top by yellow stripe, followed by blue, white, yellow, blue, white stripes. The dimensions of the sides of the flag are 2:3, and the flag is terminated by swallowtail (trim) extending to one third of its lenghth.

The flag is used by provost and city representation during city or state festive and official occasions. The flags are hanged out on buildings in which they are housed, or in halls in which the jollity takes place.

Provost´s insignia are created by chain with city symbol and Slovak Republic state sign. These are used within festive occasions, social actions, on the occasion of awarding of city of Pieštany prize and provost´s prize and on other festive occasions determined by provost or city representation.

Provost´s standard is created by city coat of arms projected on rectangle-shaped cloth braided by hem in city colours, and the proportion of height and width of standard is identical with proportion of height and width of coat of arms. Provost or city representation makes decisions about usage of provost´s standard.
