Eunyoung's Experiences in Utah

PowerPoint Presentation: My Work | Listen to My experiences

My Introduction

I was born in Seoul, the capital of Korea, but I live in Gyeonggi Province now. There are 6 members in my family. The members of my family are a stern father, a generous mother, two pretty sisters, a talented brother, and me.
I have many hobbies (e.g. drawing cartoons, watching movies, listening to the music and so on). My favorite hobby is drawing cartoons. When I was young, I was told that I had a talent for drawing cartoons, so one time, my dream was to be a cartoonist.
Also, I want to speak English very well. I hope to improve my English ability through this English training program even if a little.

My Province

Gyeonggi Province where I live is located in the west-central area of the Korea peninsula and surrounds the Korean capital of Seoul. Gyeonggi Province includes 31 cities that have various characters.
The population of Gyeonggi Province surpasses 10 million. The area of Gyeonggi Province is 10,189 km2 (square kilometers), accounting for approximately 10% of the total land area of South Korea.

My Work

I work for the Gyeonggi Provincial Government in the Gyeonggi Provincial Government Seoul Office which is located in Seoul. I collect information from the national government and provide it to related departments of the Gyeonggi Provincial Government. Also, I manage office equipment in my office and work with general affairs.

Experiences in Utah

ann in house Utah has a sisterhood relationship with Gyeonggi Province, so Im here to study English as a public officer of the Gyeonggi Provincial Government. I'm very fortunate.
I have already been here for about 3 weeks. During the days, I have gained experiences to contact other cultures.
As soon as I arrived in Utah, I was surprised at the snow on the mountain tops. It was wonderful to me to see the snow in the middle of April. There have been many first experiences for me (e.g. taking the Trax - local train, having dinner at Mexican restaurant, ordering pizza in English by phone, and so on).
For the first week in Utah, I had a sleeping problem because of the time difference, but George, the assistant director of ELI, took care of me when I was sick. Finally, I recovered my health. I appreciate not only him but also other teachers of ELI who teach us enthusiastically.
Since I have arrived in Utah, I always feel the fresh air of Utah, the street and buildings are clean and then, most of the residents are all kind. The Beehive, the Symbol of the state of Utah, means hard work, cooperation, and unity, and I think that Utah people are very diligent because there are many trees and grass anywhere in spite of dry climate.

Sightseeing and travel

ann at arches I visited many popular places and events (e.g. Arches, Dead Horse Point, Canyonlands, State Capital Building, The Beehive House, Mormon Temple, and the Business to Business EXPO).
Above all, those sceneries of Arches, Dead Horse Point, Canyonlands were very impressive to me. There are lots of beautiful red rocks, huge and various shapes of rocks. I wont forget the impression for a longtime, and I had a good time at the Business to Business EXPO. I ate free food and drank beverages and got many free gifts. It was very exciting.

Future plan and goals

Four weeks are short time to study English, so I didnt expect to improve my English ability a lot, but I really felt that my English was very poor while I was in Utah. It motivates me to study English hard, so I decided to study English hard when I return to Korea. Some day, I want to live in another country to learn about a new culture for 1 or 2 years, and then I wish to apply the merits of that culture to my province.
