Interview
Tell us about your first film realese.
My  first release is going to be Boney Kapoor's
Koi Mere Dil Se Pooche. The film is directed by Vinay Shukla and my co-star in the film is Aftab Shivdasani. It's actually a very mature role for a newcomer and the story has a strong sense of Drama. I like the character I'm playing in the film.

Apparently Sridevi has trained and groomed you for Boney Kapoor's Koi Mere Dil Se Pooche.

Yes, in fact my mom, Sridevi and Jaya aunty have all been very supportive about this. They have a great contribution towards building my confidence and helping me bring out my best.

What was it like working with Jaya?
Jayaji was really nice and sweet to me. And she gave me a lot of tips. The rapport between us has come cross beautifully on screen.

How do you react to the rumors about your romance with Aftab Shivdasani?

I stopped getting bugged about it. Earlier the gossip about us used to irritate me but now it doesn't. I can't help with what people talk about or choose to believe. Aftab and I are good friends.  And if we get along well, if we talk and laugh that gives people a reason to talk nonsense, too bad. I will do just as I please. They can write whatever they want!

What was your first day of shooting like?

I was extremely nervous. My first shoot was with Hrithik Roshan in
Na Tum Jaano Na Hum although it was my second film. It was a dance sequence that we had already rehearsed for earlier. There were  a lot of people and I was quite tensed. But then I had a few steps and everyone around us applauded. Wow! I knew then that I had arrived.

How did you first enter films?
I was leaving to participate in the Football Nationals to be held in Punjab, when my father sat me down to ask me what I wanted to do  with  me my life. I could either play football, or enter films. But there is so little scope for girls in Indian football, so I decided to take up acting.

Does your brothers, Sunny and Bobby, give you their inputs regarding your career?
Yes, Sunny bhaiya has spoken to me about it. He keeps reiterating that if I've decided I want to be a  part of this industry, I have to work hard  and do well. Even dad constantly reminds me not to get affected by hits and flops... just go with the flow, focus on the work and take things in my stride as they come.

What about your academics?

I completed my 12th. But then I decided to give it up since I wanted  to get into films after all. It seemed more sensible for me to start  training for something that  helped my career instead of studying which was of no use to me.

Which of your parents' films do you like the most?
I think I loved them in Sholay and Seeta Aur Geeta the most. My mom was great in Lal Pathar. Though my faavorite would have to be Sholay, since she had so many dialogues that she had to mouth in one go. It was great watching them.

What do you do in your free time?

I like to chill out and watch DVDs with my mom, dad and my sister Ahana. I also enjoy listening to music. My favorite artist is Modanna, though I like her looks more than I really like her music.

Kareena has made a good impact since she has stepped in to the industry. Does that make you feel insecure?

Not at all! In fact Kareena and I are best buddies, we are really close friends and our friendship goes back a long way...we are from the same school. Whenever we have spare time we try to meet up and spend some time together. I simply can't be jealous of such a close friend.

Is there any actress besides your mom that you draw inspiration from?

I absolutely love Julia Roberts and I think she is a great actress.

How do you feel about the fact that Tusshar's father and your mother were co-stars at one time and now  you are acting opposite each other too in Kya Dil Ne Kaha?
It's nice as well as funny feeling for me. But I guess it's my mom who will feel different and funny about her daughter performing with her co-star's son. She will be able to describe the feeling better.

Tell us something about your role in
Kya Dil Ne Kaha.
In this movie I am playing the character of a strong headed, broad-minded, slightly tomboyish girl named Esha, who falls in love with a US return guy. We are deeply in love and there is a perfect chemistry, but after spending most of his life in the US his ideals and values are different from an Indian guy of his age. He believes in love but not in the institution of marriage, while my convictions are very different. I believe that a relationship of love between a man and a woman needs to culimate into marriage. I enjoyed doing this roles because there are a few shades of 'real Esha' in this character.

How was it like working with your co-star Tusshar Kapoor?

Tusshar  is great fun, cooperative and has absolutely no hang-ups. He is very comfortable to work with and we're having a nice time working together.

That's Esha Deol- as frank and forthnight as Hema, as fearless as Dharam. No wonder she prides herself, on being a combination of both parents!
