Fall is in the air and the density altitude has become more airplane friendly of late, allowing shorter takeoff’s and better climb. Visibility tends to be better also except here on the Eastern Shore, where the tomato fields are burned off leaving an aroma in the air reminiscent of the old suburban leaf burning days. Not to worry though, we have a couple of  fly-in’s to entice you to the Eastern Shore.

Campbell Field is hosting a two day event Oct 15-16 th. Gordon is busy preparing for a rousing unique experience providing fun & food for all. The Grumman Tiger Assoc. is expected to field several planes as well as many from the northeast. Gordon has been promoting the day everywhere he fly’s. The folks from the RANS Aircraft Co. may be there with a couple of their products

The Fly-In will commence Sat Oct 15^th with food and fun activities. Camping under the beautiful Eastern Shore sky will follow an evening bonfire. For those living in busy urban areas, you won’t believe the quiet solitude of our location. On Sunday we will prepare a pancake breakfast and swap hangar tales before sending you off hopefully full of food and good remembrances.  He will have cans of auto fuel available and 110LL is available at nearby Melfa (MFV) at a discount. (Just mention you are attending our Fly-in)

For our November meeting Paul Young plans on hosting the group at the inauguration of his terminal/pilots lounge building which reportedly has all the latest amenities.

Both of these future events will have a high standard to match from Ray Sawyer’s picnic this past September. The day was sunny with comfortable temps. All the food donator’s outdid himself or herself and the parking area boasted eight planes. There was much discussion whether seaplanes could land in the adjacent creek. ( questionable but possible)

There was no meeting as such but Jim Rank suggested anyone interested in club shirt logos to see him to arrange for a group order.

Now that all the good stuff has been read, here is the pleading part.  For Gordon’s Fly-In we will need some folks to help with aircraft parking and various sundry things, none of which require much muscle or time but will provide self satisfaction and appreciation from all attending. Come be a part of the start of an annual tradition here on the Shore.

  -RUMORS –

Vic and I had an “engine out”. Luckily it was in Vic’s boat.

Ozzie used his Knot tying knowledge to get home from Dinwiddie

I am one step closer to my “glider rating” after my fourth dead stick landing.

Bill Porter was seen at R. Sawyer’s making engine sounds in preparation for flying his restored bird.

Dave Lumgair actually trusted me to help with his annual insp. (mercy!)

The Salisbury Ercoupe boys were seen at PTB under the sign of a Zodiak.

Gordon has been painting graffiti on his hangar roof. (Typical New Yorker!)

Was it Jose who held up four planes in the pattern at PTB after making an ultra short landing and ensuing mile long taxi to the nearest turnoff?…… NAAAH!, it was a J3.

What he did do was make his famous “Maule takeoff”.

Those  Chptr. 250 guys really know how to work a guy. But I wouldn’t have it any other way!

REPORT ON DINWIDDIE FLYIN..

PTB was blessed with fine weather this year (finally). Approx. Four hundred planes were on the field Sat with no mishaps and no SNAFU’s. My hat’s off to all the organizers and volunteers who helped make Ozzie and my stay a pleasant one. (and all the other attendees as well.)

I urge all EAA’ers to participate in events such as that for being a part of it is much more rewarding than just attending it. I was able to snap some nice pics while on taxiway duty without having to walk all around the Airport. Besides they offered a great dinner for us volunteers.

OCEAN CITY MD FLY-IN.… This weekend, Oct 8,9^th.

 Be sure to make this one as the warbird display is usually outstanding and the crowds are curious and appreciative.

 -RUMORS-

Paul Young has set out to beat the Chinese record for the most wall built in one day using forced labor to construct the pilots lounge. 

Paul was also cited by the Carpenter’s Union for over feeding his captive laborers.

 Vic Loisel has been overheard humming sea chanties in preparation for seaplane adventures.

 Dave Lumgair and Gordon Campbell have found, you CAN fly cross country with no alternator. (VA to FL)

 Gordon and Chris Campbell are becoming the latest “Come Here’s” moving permanently to the Eastern Shore.

 Crisfield may be changing the Wings and Wheels Fly-In to the Kite and Boat –In.

 There are some folks from the “Capital” (Wash. DC ) who are interested in attending some of our Fly-In/picnics. No, thankfully they are not from The FAA

 Hudgins Field (USUAAClub 6) may have a temporary reprieve, thanks for once to zoning complications
