Fall is here and the flying weather can be Ideal this time of year. There are some nice aviation events in the area such as the Chapter 6 Fly-In at Hudgins Field Oct 2^nd, Ocean City MD Fly-In Oct 9-10 And of course our very own Fly-In Picnic at Campbell field Oct 16^th. Gordon Campbell has been busy sprucing up the field in preparation for its debut as a reopened General Aviation field. The grass has been neatly trimmed and the hangars painted. The Airport is listed on all the new charts as Campbell field (9VG), Weirwood VA.  Gordon has invited the Grumman Tiger Association members to the field and anyone wishing to land and enjoy this diamond in the rough. It’s impossible to go away without catching some of his enthusiasm. This can be an excellent opportunity to promote and recruit new members in our Chapter. There is no AV fuel facilities yet but he will have two-stroke fuel available. Feel free to copy and or pass around the attached flyer to any prospects. 

Our September picnic at Jim Rank’s was a nice gathering although we had no planes on the field. Mechanical problems and competing events kept the numbers down but not the camaraderie and delicious food. Much discussion on the Sport Pilot ruling dominated the conversations.

�         Dave Lumgair has been seen flying his recently purchased “Ultraheavy” Ultralight, or is that a Cessna 150?

�         Ozzie wowed the crowd at Hudgins with his “ground aerobatics”.

�         Jim Rank has located a carburetor that might actually let the Cayuna run.

�         Ray Sawyer has found that flat tires don’t work, even when only flat on the bottom.

�         Yours truly found that Rotax’s sound “Kool” when the exhaust manifold comes off in the air.

�         Gil Zeltwanger has found that old gas is better off used in old tractors etc.

�         Paul Young named “philanthropist.” of the year for loaning a wheel to repair the above-mentioned flat tire. 

�         A couple of unnamed members found that there is an Ocean City NJ.

  That’s all the roasting for this month. The responsibility and blame for the rumors content is solely my own and not the club’s fault.
