May 2004

MEETING, MAY 8, AT ACCOMACK COUNTY AIRPORT, 1.00 PM

PICNIC ON TERMINAL PORCH

Now that March winds and April showers have passed us by its time to shake out the cobwebs and spruce up your bird in preparation for wonderful May. The days are longer, evenings warmer, winds lighter, and so many activities to fly to.

We will have an informal picnic lunch at the terminal where we can eat and watch the planes fly in and out as well as report on some neat things going on with the club.

If you’re coming by car, feel free to bring a treat to share with the membership. If by air, bring us a good showy landing. (Flyers; NOTE there is construction of the new taxiway on the southeast side of runway 3).

Ozzie Hilderson is on his way back from Florida so hopefully will bring his amphib. To the meeting. (If there is a lot of rain before the meeting I’ll try to coax him to make a water landing in the ditch next to the runway). NOT!!

Some other nearby Fly/ins are, Chapter 6 UAA picnic on May16 at Hudgins field,Cobbs Creek VA. And Potomac Antique Aero Squadron Club Fly/in at Horn Point MD on 22 May, Crisfield Fly/in on June 12. Maxwell tells me there will be helicopter rides and mucho food goodies, especially barbecue prepared by our own esteemed chef, Paul Young.  If anyone has info on other Fly/ins let Jim or I know. Better yet, place it on our new website.

Dave Lumgair has developed a great web site ( geocities.com/eseaa108/ )  Check it out, you’ll like it. There is also a club E-mail address on YAHOO that can be used for info you wish to submit.

Jim Rank has informed me that there is $528.50 in the club account. As no one wants the thankless task of treasurer, Jim has tapped me to co- treasurer with him.

Ken  Rank recently visited the new airspace museum at Dulles Airport. He was very impressed and suggests we should get a club trip together to see for ourselves. Be sure to express your views on a trip at the meeting.

I have recently flown into Paul Young’s, Jim Rank’s, and  Campbell field(ex Kellam) and report them to be in good shape. Campbell has a new tractor for grass cutting which, through the generous loan of a mower deck by Gil Zeltwanger, is now getting in shape. I have been cutting as often as possible but we need volunteers to put in some time whenever you can. He is more than willing to have us be a part of the re-emergence of the Airport  The least we can do is an hour here and there.

                                                     “RUMORS”

Jim rank is nearing completion of his new Ldg. Gear and hopes to be flying soon.

Dave Lumgair is waiting for Savannah to complete testing of the new wing.  His landing field is waiting for approval.

Preston Smith is working on his new project and is trying to adapt the engine mounts. Any Ideas?

I  am planning on crossing the pond to Club 6’s fly/in may16. Anyone wishing to fly in formation with me, LET’S DO IT.  Contact Ray Gefken (60mph or slower)

Accomack County Airport is having a partial taxiway installed so there is much construction equipment about. Keep Alert.

That’s all for this month  SEE YA all at the Accomack Airport Saturday may 8th at 1:00 PM rain or shine. Call or E-mail Jim  or me so we can order some nice stuff for the picnic.       [email protected]     [email protected]
