June 2004

 Our June Meeting will be held at Crisfield MD Airport Saturday June 12^th 2004. Please note. The Crisfield Fly/In has been canceled so we will picnic at Vince Jordan’s hangar.

 Our May picnic at Accomack Airport went off well in spite of windy weather. Ray Sawyer, the indomitable heavy weather flyer, was the only fly-in. That didn’t limit attendance however as many members and wives enjoyed a festive repast along with a showing of a training tape on take offs and landings, Courtesy of Ozzie Hilderson.

As of this writing, all member dues are paid and  Gordon Campbell, owner of Campbell Field (ex Kellam) has joined our ranks. He has recently returned from Oregon with his Lancair project. He spent two weeks at the factory builders support session before trucking it across the country. He will be working on it at his airport for the next year or so. Be sure to stop in and see this beautiful plane.

Crazy weather and  work schedules wreaked havoc on our mowing party at Campbell field. We managed in the end to put together three tractors and fielded  a motley group of hard working guys. On top of everything the airport tractor blew a tire and broke the front wheel. Thanks to Gordon’s foresight in purchasing a lift crane, we were able to clear the runway. Dave Lumgair scrounged up new parts and had the tractor wheel fixed in short order. Thanks go out to, Jim, Gil, Doc, Vic, Dave, Oh Yeah, Gordon Campbell and I were there too.

 Flying season is getting into full swing and Fly/Ins abound. Ray Sawyer and I braved the hazy Chesapeake May 16^th to attend The Club 6 picnic at Cobbs Creek VA. They certainly put on an affair to be proud of. We were among a dozen visiting planes to grace their field. Unfortunately afternoon buildups forced us to leave by 1500. It was my first trip across the bay in my own creation and I  mentally  reviewed every structural and mechanical  operation I had performed in construction.
