April 2005
April means Daylight Flying time for those of us dedicated
airmen/women who yearn to take advantage of every waking hour to be in the air.
April also means a revisit to Alfred Hitchcock’s saga, “The
Birds”. Yes the birds can build a nest under your cowl faster than you can walk to
your car after tying down.
When I flew out of Northern NJ I found an authentic looking fake
snake to be very effective. I placed it on the cowl but still covered the ports. I suspect
the country birds might be smarter than the NJ city birds but I still use the snake with
seemingly good results.
Now that you think, “I’m for the birds”, I’ll
change the subject.
April’s meeting will be at ACCOMACK COUNTY AIRPORT on Sat
April 9th. At 1300.
We will have a short meeting then carpool to the Sunrise Diner for
lunch.

I met a prospective new member recently. Don Palladino lives in
Wallops VA and is interested in learning Ultralight flying.
Delmarva Aviation
Association is having a fly-out to Hummel on April 2nd. This should be a fun
event with lunch at the restaurant on field. I plan on trekking across the pond in my
toothpick & rubberband plane so why not you too? ETA Hummel will be around 1200 Sat.

There have been some Date changes in the event calendar.
Crisfield “Wings & Wheels” has been moved to April 30th, rain
date Sunday31st. It is a fundraiser sponsored by the Lions Club.
EAA Virginia State Fly-in is moved to Oct 1- 2, 2005,hoping to avoid
Hurricane season.
Gil Zeltwanger, Vic Loisel and myself attended the seminar in Richmond
this past month. The speakers were interesting and informative and we three came home with
renewed inspiration for the flying season. These gatherings are as important for
networking as for the subjects discussed. I left a stack of our schedules on the table in
hopes of drawing some flyers to our outings.
The folks from Chptr. 6
mentioned the impending demise of Hudgins Feld. They think that the May 15 Fly-in may be
their swan song. They are actively looking for a new home with an eye toward Hummel or West
Point.
- APRIL RUMORS

It has been reported by Missy Holland that ACCOMACK COUNTY AIRPORT
has been selected as the landing site for NASA’s next space shuttle landing She will
hold a news conference Friday April 1, 2005.
Ozzie Hilderson has informed me he is never coming back from Florida
if this spring continues to be cold, wet and windy.
Vince Jordan Sr. was seen chasing some nurses around the local
hospital recently He is mending with a smile on his face.
Bill Sprague has experienced a bout with pneumonia and is recovering
nicely. He tells me that he aggravated his lungs shouting at the Airport Commission
meeting.
George Riefler has found a work place for his project and is busy
working on the tail feathers of his “Legal Eagle”. Hey George, will the tail and
nose be white??
Vic Loisel has decided to put his “Kitfox” on floats as
originally intended. With all the rain we’ve been having, he will be able to land
everywhere.
By this time next month Gordon Campbell will have his IFR ticket and
Dave Lumgair will be a Commercial pilot. I have heard rumors of an Airline Terminal
abuilding at Lumgair International. Hey Dave, Can a 747 land on grass???
My “Push & Go” exceeded the sound barrier on its first
flight with the Kawasaki. The altitude density put the barrier at 70MPH. (TOOK MY BREATH
AWAY!!)
If you have any news of interest to the members, contact me, I’ll
be glad to expand, exaggerate and plagiarize it all out of context for the RUMORS section.
As always, these jotting are taken sometimes with a token of truth
but tongue in cheek.
