O fragmento faz parte do relevo do Frizo Norte do Partenon.

British government asks for opinions on returning Nazi loot - For some time now, the British Government has been talking about making changes to the acts governing many of Britain’s major museums & galleries. The change being considered is to allow the return of looted artefacts taken stolen by the Nazis which ended up in British Institutions.

The British Museum’s statement regarding Aboriginal returns The British Museum has published on their website, a press release detailing key points regarding their decision to return packages of cremation ashes to the Tasmanian Aboriginal community. It seems clear that the British Museum is very definite in their opinion that stones are to be treated differently to bones - Whilst the return of human remains is worthwhile, return of other artefacts should be treated completely differently & does not hold the same level of moral obligation.

Greece reclaims its pillaged past - Home to an estimated 34,000 archaeological sites, Greece is viewed as Europe’s biggest open-air museum. Along with Italy, it has attracted tomb raiders since before its foundation as a nation state in 1830. But Athens is toughening its stance, homing in on the dealers, curators and collectors that are the source of demand. This month the J Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles agreed to yield ownership of two pieces that Greece had long claimed.

A new era of great museums? In recent years, it seems possible that the world might be on the verge of another new era of construction of great museums - many of them built with the intention that they wil eventually house artefacts currently held in the great museums of the west. A few key examples of this emerging trend would be the Grand Museum of Egypt, the Beijing Capital Museum and the New Acropolis Museum.

The destruction of Babylon Along with the looting of Iraq’s Museums after the fall of Saddam Hussein’s regime, were many cases of accidental damage to archaeological sites. Since foreign observers were able to re-enter the country, archaeologists have alleged that the US forces stationed at the Babylon site have caused huge amounts of damage to the ancient buildings. The British Museum has long highlighted the problems with the looting & damage in Iraq but neglects to mention that many pieces in their own collection were acquired from situations in the past which were not dissimilar.
