History

It was in 1946 that the Sauveniere Fencing Circle first saw the light of day at the Liège Baths and Sports Centre at n°33, Boulevard de la Sauvenière with Master at Armes Hardy. In 1947 it was recognised by the F.R.B.C.E. In 1949, the Circle added the services of Master at Armes Jean Goffin who would take over the soul responsibility when, in 1950, Master Hardy received his pension. He assumed this charge until 1987, the year of his accidental passing away.

Because of the space constraints at Centre, in 1983 the Circle chose to change salles, moving to the Hall Omnisport de la Constitution. In 1987, Master at Armes André Fridenberghs took over the mastery of the Circle, which charge he still assumes with much joy today. He is helped in his task by Masters Claudy Dobzai and Eric Poncin.

In 1993, in collaboration with the Association of Belgian Veterans, the Circle organised the 2nd European Veterans Championship (more than 330 participants and 11 nations represented).

In 1997, it pleased his Majesty King Albert the 2nd to confer the title of Royal on our Circle to mark its 50 years of existence.
