Class Web Site: www.geocities.com/eschrader2/eschrader2.html 1. El Comportamiento y La Preparacin (Behavior and Preparation) A good foreign language student is always open-minded, enthusiastic, attentive, punctual, and prepared for class. To be a successful Spanish student, you must always: a. be prompt and in your seat beginning to BOP when the bell rings b. come prepared to class daily with your supplies and homework on your desk c. be cooperative, polite, and mutually respectful at all times d. participate in class on a daily basis using Spanish as much as and whenever you can e. follow directions the first time they are given f. attend class regularly and be responsible for doing make-up work g. ask questions and seek help when necessary h. refrain from eating, drinking, or chewing gum in class i. school and personal property is to be respected j. Remain seated throughout the class and until I dismiss the class at the end of the period. k. Any cheating or questionable behavior during testing or class activities will result in a zero. l. ALWAYS DO YOUR BEST! 2. Las Materias (Materials) Textbook , workbook, Spanish notebook, writing utensil , and any assignments 3. La Participacin (Participation) Language learning involves four skills: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. In order to improve these skills you will need to practice daily; therefore, in-class participation is EXPECTED. Generally, those who participate on a regular basis are more successful in learning the language. I will keep track of your participation daily and twice a quarter you will do an evaluation. 4. La Tarea (Homework) Although some homework will be graded, my goal is to grade students on their acquisition and use of skills in all areas of communication and knowledge of culture, rather than for the simple completion of activities. In doing so, many homework assignments will not be graded for credit, but failure to complete homework will result in lower grades, as the student will be unable to fully participate in class and will not receive practice in the skill areas that will be assessed. 5. Los Cuadernos de Espaol (Spanish Notebooks) and BOPs You are to have a Spanish notebook in order to take notes and keep materials organized such as your BOP papers. A specific type of notebook is not required but you must bring it with you to class every day. In order to assess how you are keeping up with your work, a notebook grade will be taken. This grade will NEVER be pre-announced. At least twice during the quarter, I will check notebooks and/or the BOP (Beginning of Period) activities. 6. Las Pruebas (Quizzes) You will have a quiz about once a week in general. If you are absent the day of the quiz and it has been announced previously, you are to take it the day you return provided no new information was learned the day you were absent. 7. Las Ausencias y La Poliza de Completar Trabajo (Absences and Make-up Work Policy) If you are absent, there will be a class folder on the table with a sheet that explains what we have done each day that you need to make-up. Any handouts you have missed will also be in the classs make-up folder. It is your responsibility to check this folder and get the assignments. Remember that assignments, homework, quiz dates, and project details are also listed on our Spanish class web site: <www.geocities.com/eschrader2/eschrader2.html> *Long-term assignments (projects, compositions) that were due the day of your absence must be handed in the day you return. 8. Las Tardanzas (Tardies) Late arrivals to class are both disruptive and disrespectful. If you are late to class you need a pass from the teacher or the administrator with whom you were. A student will be marked tardy if he or she is not in the room when the bell sounds. After a 2nd class tardy a parent will be contacted. On the occasion of a 3rd tardy, students will be assigned a detention. 9. La Calificacin (Grading) Grades will be given on a point system. There will be a variety of grades including reading, writing, listening, speaking, and cultural knowledge. Assessments may include homework, tests, projects, quizzes and pop-quizzes, in-class work including bell work, speaking evaluations, writings, and notebook checks. The grading scale used in this class is the standard scale shown in your student handbook. 10. La Ayuda (Help) If you do not understand something please ask for help at once! The first nine weeks are crucial; they set the foundation for the rest of the year. I am available by appointment before school and also during my lunch and conference periods. |
