In whole, the peer to peer file-sharing programs will never be stopped. With a combination of hard to sue users and the complications of confusing laws, it is unreasonable for the programs to ever be confined. Whatever the outcome of the final law, there will always be companies that will support renegade programs. Lawsuits will follow; yet so will more companies and more peer to peer programs. The RIAA is, and always has been the main oppoent to new recording technologies. It is a pity that the RIAA will not accept the evidence that online music helps promote music sales. They will characterisitcally oppose any form of personal recording for fear of lost revenue. In fact, Michael Lesk has studied this same topic and has come to an insightful conclusion: "The recording industry has always attacked new technologies... and historically, the new technologies haven't gone away." |
