| Where you should get your music... | ||||||||||||||||||||
| 1. Buy minor label music (aka indie). | ||||||||||||||||||||
| -Nearly all "famous" artists are signed with a major record label. The reason these artists are famous is because of the advertising provided by these major labels. When you buy from major labels, only $0.60 (or less) goes to the artist. |
||||||||||||||||||||
| -Buy indie music. Indie is just as good as "famous" artists, except indie artists do not have nearly as much publicity. Indie artists receive well over half of the money generated by CD sales. | ||||||||||||||||||||
| 2. Buy used CDs. | ||||||||||||||||||||
| -Used CDs are usually sold at half of the original price. Even if it is a major label CD, when bought used, absolutely no money goes to the label (the RIAA). | ||||||||||||||||||||
| 3. Download music. | ||||||||||||||||||||
| -Although controversial, people can still download music at no price. It seems as though users will not be able to download music for free for very much longer. You can find a peer to peer file-sharing program at www.kazaa.com. Do not be afraid of the RIAA's lawsuits--they only target users that download thousands of files. | ||||||||||||||||||||
